Blood test and CLO test negative, histo positive

Post by Singaporeguy »

Hi, I just wanted to share that both my blood and CLO test was negative but the histo from the endoscopy showed the presence of HP organisms. So just take note that blood tests aren't that accurate after all.. I can't explain why, but do take note..

Symptoms were fatigue, dazed and brain fog, headache sometimes, stools that weren't properly formed, reflux.. No abdominal pain or cramps.

ESR levels were high which made me investigate. After seeing a series of docs, finally someone did a calprotectin test which indicated a level of 210. This led on to an endoscopy which showed chronic active gastritis.. Erosive and non erosive.. Was given amox, klacid and vonoprazan for 14 days. Only just got it today.

Anyone can explain and share more about the testing abnormalities? And also the recovery time? Thank you!

no test is 100%
But I am a little surprise to hear that you have two negative tests from blood and CLO and a positive histology examination.
histology is, after all, the recognised gold standard.

I think,
the reason your blood test is negative, maybe because your Helicobacter is not compatible with the test kit. The blood antibody test kit can sometimes be very specific.

The reason for the CLO test is to fail, either because you dont produce enough acid, or the Helicobacter doesnt have the urease enzyme.

which makes me wonder, if you are infected with a special Helicobacter species.

Yes, i had a negative blood test and a negative clo test. Only the histo was positive. May i know what special series of helicobater that it might be? Do i need to be taking something else other than the first line standard therapy to deal with it? I am currently on vonoprazan, clarithroymycin and amoxicillin for 14 days..

Also, can i ask is insomnia possible as a side effect of the treatment? I am currently on day 4 of treatment and had insomnia the previous night. I don't think it is due to anxiety as my anxiety died down quite abit after i got the diagnosis. Im hoping that the insomnia will resolve itself if not the remaining 10 days are going to be really tough.

Yes, i can confirm that the blood test and clo test were both negative. Only the histo was positive. Can i ask what special series this might be? I was prescribed the standard therapy of vonoprazan, Clarithromycin and amoxicillin for 14 days. Do i need something special instead?

Also i am currently on day 4 of the course and suffered insomnia last night. Could that be a side effect of the medication? I don't think its anxiety as my anxiety went down after the diagnosis and i was able to sleep the first 3 days of treatment.

If the insomnia persists, it would be really challenging to continue the remaining 10 days of treatment..

It's impossible to know the species of Helicobacter without DNA testing. Since these Helicobacters all gave the same disease and can be treated the same way, it's uncommon for doctors to try identify the species.

In regards to your insomnia, it could be the side effect of one of the drugs (eg. clarithromycin and amoxicillin) you are taking. you can try some herbal tea to ease your sleep.

Your provider may order more tests to find out the cause of your symptoms. A positive test result means that you have an H.geometry dash pylori infection.

It's intriguing to see the interplay between different diagnostic methods in medicine, particularly in cases like this where blood tests and CLO tests come back negative while histological examination reveals a positive result. This highlights the importance of comprehensive diagnostic approaches, as relying solely on one method may lead to missed diagnoses. geometry dash

Blood tests for H. pylori can yield false negatives, especially if the infection is recent or if the body's antibody response is low, which may explain your negative results despite a positive histological exam. The recovery time after H. pylori treatment varies among individuals,Retro Bowl with some feeling better within a week while others may experience lingering symptoms for weeks or even months.

It's rare for blood test to give false negative result.
You can tell from blood test if it is recent infection by testing IgM.
However, most people catch H. pylori when they are very young. So detecting IgM is rare.
Then again, blood test only tells you your history of exposure and not your current infection. You can always get an alternative test, such as breath or stool test to double confirm the result.
