Hello everyone, I haven't been on this forum since July. Almost exactly one year ago I began having all of the symptoms of h. Pylori, and after months of not knowing what it was my blood test was positive. I did 2 weeks of the triple therapy, waited 2 weeks to do the stool test and it came back negative. So, after very slowly returning to normal I thought I was done with this awful bacteria!
But, now the past 2 weeks I have begun all of the symptoms that I had a year ago. Nausea, bloating, feeling full quickly, burping, loss of appetite, stomach gurgling and discomfort etc. I am currently waiting for the results of a stool test to see if it is positive for h. Pylori again. Has this happened to anyone else after being successfully cleared of the bacteria? How could I get it again so quickly? Could someone in my family be carrying it? Or is it possible it never really went away? I'm so confused, or could it be gastritis that is unrelated? Any thoughts would be great! Thanks!

Does it sound like I have this again???

Re: Does it sound like I have this again???
Hi:
I've had a terrible experience with massive burping and feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack. This condition started about 20 years ago. About 3 years ago, I met my wife, who is a picture of perfect health, and she started burping uncontrollably shortly after I met her. It is totally obvious to me that she's contracted her disease from me. I think the only possible explanation is that I have h pylori, but I haven't been tested for it yet. If it is h pylori, I can assure you that people transmit it others close to them.
Has your spouse been tested?
What have you been eating lately? Coffee? Tea? Soda? Oranges? Fried Foods? Milk? Caffeine? Chocolate? Please let me know the food you ate leading up to this. What do you eat regularly?
I was in the ER about 6 days ago. I recovered by eating only a mixture of rice, peas and corn. It is a very neutral mixture of food, and it stabilizes my stomach. I also started Prilosec in the mild 20mg dose, but judging from my experience, I know that the food is the critical factor. I would suggest that you try it. I've felt progressively better each day. I'm going to stop the Prilosec tomorrow.
I got into trouble by drinking tea every day. My diet included too many pizza hot-pockets, tea, eggs, jalapenos (in the eggs), tomato, grapefruit etc.
I'm going to stay in this holding pattern until my stomach heals. I think this is a good move for both of us because if either of us has the bacteria, I'm sure the treatment would be easier to handle with a stronger stomach.
Thank you to the people that run this site. I just donated.

Re: Does it sound like I have this again???
Thanks beagle123 for your support.
You are right that H. pylori is normally transmitted among very close relationship.
as for Lynncm, it is meaningless to discuss if you were reinfected or had a false negative test previously. What you can do now is to get tested, which already did. if you are positive, try a different set of antibiotics. If you are negative, then perhaps you want to try other test, eg. breath test or endoscopy.

Re: Does it sound like I have this again???
Thank you for the advice. My test returned negative and my doctor suggested taking Prilosec for 2 weeks. I am assuming the stool test is accurate. I am unsure what to do at this point. I will consider the breath test in the future if symptoms continue, I'd really rather not have the endoscopy. Have been really watching my diet, taking acidophilus and hoping symptoms subside. Wondering if having had h. Pylori in the past leaves you with a more sensitive stomach?

Re: Does it sound like I have this again???
i believe the stool test is accurate too. it is hard to tell if H. pylori in the past leaves you with a more sensitive stomach. it is such a chronic infection, people carry it for life and most of them without symptoms. Interestingly, it is the developed countries, with less H. pylori prevalence, has an increase of IBS or allergies to food, such as peanut and dust. That's why we are researching on H. pylori controlling immune response against allergens and probably certain autoimmune disease.
