Hi
I'm on my 4th day of pylera - 10 days. I was diagnosed with h pylori in May 2014 via an endoscopy taken as a result of accidentally swallowing a fish bone. Fish bone passed, btw. The GI doctor prescribed Omeclamox for 10 days. I only took 3.5 days because I developed a rash on my back that was not itchy. I never had h pylori symptoms other than loose stool every once in a while. I was able to eat everything. After stopping the Omeclamox I drank 2 ounces of apple cider vinegar and burned my esophagus. I had to have two dilations due to the stricture from the scarring. I lost 25 lbs during those two months. Went from 125 to 100. Now am at 107. After the dilation I'm now showing signs of h pylori - ulcers and reflux. Since I had a reaction with the triple therapy my doctor prescribed pylera. I have taken flagy before so I figured I wouldn't have any issues. Last night I started having slight pin prick feeling every once in while. Just general discomfort. I don't sleep because of this uneasy feeling. And I hae some mild tingling in my hands at one point. I read that these symptoms will require stopping pylera. They may be nervous system related. I can't afford to stop. I'm at the end of my rope. I've been the picture of health my whole life and am not falling apart and in constant pain either because of the ulcers or the pylera effects. Any advice. It's been a roller coaster the past 4 months.

Pylera - pain - no options

Re: Pylera - pain - no options
On day 5. My ulcers seem to hurt when I take a dose. Although this is supposed to kill the bacteria that causes the ulcers, it also irritates the ulcers. Other than that I am starting to feel a loss of appetite and I need to eat to reduce the symptoms ffrom this poison and gain the weight I lost from injuring my esophagus. The thing that concerns me the most is the slight pricking I get every once in a while. I understand this is part of the peripheral neurophathy of the flagly/metrondizole. I'm supposed to stop if I get these symptoms but it's not severe and I only get it occasionally. I'm taking one day at a time. It this symptom gets worse I will stop the medicine. I don't have the 'knock me out' feeling from this medication that most people get. It's the slight pricking that I get that worries me the most. 5 more nights to do. Nights are the worst for me because I'm stationary and I feel worse when I'm stationary.

Thank you for sharing your story. Have you done any test to confirm the infection of H. pylori and ulcer? Just want to make sure we are treating your problem correctly. Pylera is considered a very safe drug. However, some people may still experience side effect from it. I think the best is to talk to your GP or specialist about it. The general principle of curing H. pylori is, try to finish the course of the treatment to avoid resistance. If you experience stomach pain (due to acid), you can request your doctor for double dose PPI.
