Symptoms returned after negative stool test. Need Advise.

I was on the triple therapy; amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole for 14 days in December,2012. Symptoms went away and stool test in April, 2013 came back negative. Doctor said it was eradicated since stool test was negative. Now 7 months later, some symptoms returned. My questions are as follows:
1. Is the stool test accurate?
2. What is the likelihood of recolonization?
3. Should I ask for another stool test to reconfirm eradication? Or should I request for urea breath test?
4. Should I try the same treatment or another protocol?

Hello,

1- Normally, stool test is accurate but it won't hurt to do a breath test just to confirm eradication. However, the test might be false negative if you were taking ppi (such as omeprazole) at the time.
2- We usually speak of re-infection from your partner but this is very unlikely if you have good hygiene.
3- Like I said before, if you have any doubts you can do another test to confirm. Breath test or Stool test are both good. Don't forget yopu have to be off ppi at least 3 weeks before the test
4- If you are positive for Helicobacter, I would strongly recommand a new treatment without chlarithromycin. You can take mettronidazole instead or discuss the different options available with your gp.

Thank you for your reply. I was off of ppi since January and the stool tests was done in April. I waited almost 4 months afterwards to do the stool test so it should have been ok.

Thank you for your advise on the alternative treatment. I will wait and see if symptoms gets better and visit my gastro doctor for a retest.

I been suffering with following symptoms for the last 2 months: pain in my stomach, dizziness, lack of energy ; tired all the time; struglying to sleep ;shortedness of breath ; palpitations, fainting, wanting to burp but I can't every time I eat or drink ,loss of appetite, weight loss, I dropped from 59 to 50 in 2 months.

I was diagnosed with H.Pylori by blood test and the doctor prescribed me antibiotics and omeoprazole.
Next day I faint , was in extreme pain and was taken to the emergency were they gave me some serum and pain killers via veins.

I can't take tablets because I struggle get anything down.

Even water is not going down.



I been taken just omeoprazole but wake up in the morning with pain in my stomach and weakness.

Please, please can you give me any advise?

I think I can't handle it anymore .

Do you know if you are allergic to any of those antibiotics or omeprazole?

Perhaps you need hospital care while taking those antibiotics.

I've been haveing symptoms months after treating h-pylori! The doctor ordered a HIDA scan and turns out my gallbladder is only functioning 38%! If your symptoms continue it could be the Case. I haven't had the surgery for removal yet due to my finances. I'm still not sure if all my symptoms of fatigue is due to the h-pylori or my gallbladder. I haven't felt really well for over a year!
