9 months of misery

Hi Guys, pleasure to be part of the forum.. although id rather not be !!

My problems started Dec 2011 with slight bloating and gas which i didnt really take much notice off until one day in may 2012 when i had terrible diarrhea and a sickly empty sensation above my navel. After that i couldnt really eat much without feeling sick, bloated with real dramatic gurgling running through me.. I was breath tested for H.Pylori and it was positive. I was given 20mg omeprazole 400mg Metronidazole and 250mg Clarithromicin all twice a day for 7 days.. Symptoms carried on after treatment and was given an endoscopy ( nice....) which also shown mild Antral gastritis erythematous/exudative with no bleeding, Fundal cystic gland hyperplasia ( and a small polyp) The initial quick test they did came back negative (but they messed the form up which didnt instil confidence so i asked my doctor for another breath test which they did.. that also came back negative.. Great i thought untill the hospital professor sends me a letter saying under histological examination ( microscope) they can still see a small amount of h.pylori so im positive... aggghhhh
Makes me wonder how many people have had the breath test to get a negative result unknowingly being still positive...

Ive now been prescribed 20mg Omeprazole, one twice a day
Bizmuth (De Noltab) 120 mg one four times a day
500mg Teracycline four times a day
400mg Metronidazole three times a day
14 Day Course.

Ive had them sitting on my bedside table for 4 days now but due to a very bad allergy to penicillin years ago im very nervous about taking pills..the first round of triple therapy scared me to death ! ( although it really wasnt too bad )

Makes me wonder how many people have had the breath test to get a negative result unknowingly being still positive...

UBT is usually very sensitive. Unless patients were taking medicine that reduce stomach acid or antibiotics prior the breath test. The standard procedure is to stop all acid reducing drug and antibiotics for at least 2 weeks before the follow up breath test.

your current treatment looks good. Do update us your progress and we'll wait for your good result.

Lastly, just want to remind you that H. pylori treatment is very long and have some adverse side effects. Try to finish the antibiotics to avoid resistance.
