The role of Probiotics in HP eradication

Hi all,

I have seen some studies about the use of probiotics during and after HP eradication therapy. (as an example: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15882248), https://oa.doria.fi/bitstream/handle/10 ... sequence=1)

Basically, some studies say that probiotics help reduce the side effects of HP eradication therapy but don't increase the elimination rate, others say that probiotics don't reduce the side effects but increase the elimination rate... I'm not sure which one to believe (if any!) but I guess it's worth a try - if it does any of these things, it's a win-win situation...

The problem is the vast amount of probiotic suppliers out there, it's really difficult to say which ones actually work!
I have tried probiotics from my local health store and I have to say they really didn't do any miracles... But there are many people who believe that if you get the right stuff, it will work... There is also a lot of discussion on which is better - capsules or power. First of all, I'm not trying to sell anything!!! I'm just another HP sufferer trying to get rid of this pesky bug!

I have been recommended by a naturopath 2 brands: Primal Defence (Garden of Life - capsule) and LactoFlora (Neways - Australia - powder). Please note that some probiotics can be really expensive, it all dependes on how much money you can spend. Remember it's all a gamble! It may or may not pay out...

I have ordered Lactoflora and will start taking it as soon as it arrives. I will let you know how it goes...

I try to apply common sense to everything, and I think that it's only sensible to belive that antibiotics will kill the bad and the good bacteria in your gut, although you may be able to re-acquire the good bacteria without doing any effort (from your household, friends and family), it may be worth it to give it a hand and take some probiotics to help repopulate the gut quicker... This is just my humble theory!

Has anyone out there had any good experiences with probiotics to share with us?
What does Dr. Marshall think about the use of probiotics to complement HP treatment?

A research team from China investigated the potential anti-H. pylori and anti-inflammation in vivo effects of two lactobacillus strains from human stomach. Their study was published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology.

Their results illustrated that both lactobacillus strain Lactobacillus fermenti (L. fermenti) and Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus), showed significant anti-H. pylori activity, while strain L. fermenti displayed more efficient antagonistic activity in vivo whose efficacy is close to the standard triple therapy, thus significantly improving the H. pylori-associated Balb/c gastritis.

I'm not familiar with the "World Journal of Gastroenterology" so I can't comment on how serious and accurate this research might be... Maybe one of the moderators could comment on the reliability of this source?

There seems to be quite a lot of links on Google relating L. Fermenti and suppression of HP... I would be willing to give it a try, but the problem is that it seems impossible to find single strain probiotics nowadays (with the exception of Acidophilus). It seems that most manufacturers only sell multi-strain probiotics. I believe it would be easier to pinpoint a helpful probiotic strain if we could experiement with single strains. I had looked everywhere on the internet and I simply cannot find single strain L. Fermenti probiotic. Although there are many multi-strain probiotics that include L. Fermenti.

Does anyone know where to buy single strains of probiotiocs such as L. Fermenti? Or even better, a place where you could buy customized probiotic formulas?
