Terrified of the Antibiotics

Post by gnnmi »

Hi,
Just had an endoscopy and the doctor said my stomach is inflamed, plus I have all the symptoms. He sent me home with a handout on hpylori so I'm guessing he is thinking it will be confirmed. The idea of taking those horrible antibiotics is terrifying to me and I keep reading that more natural approaches are not effective. Can anyone reassure me? Thanks,

Taking antibiotics can seem intimidating, but they are a very effective way to treat H. pylori. While you might experience some side effects, most people tolerate them well. It is very important to complete the full course of treatment even if you start feeling better. This helps prevent the bacteria from developing resistance to the antibiotics, ensuring the treatment is successful.

Eradicating H. pylori is crucial because of its strong link to gastric cancer. Getting rid of the bacteria at a younger age is associated with better long-term recovery and a lower risk of developing this disease.

To prevent reinfection, it is important for everyone living under the same roof to be tested for H. pylori and, if necessary, treated at the same time. This coordinated effort helps to protect everyone's health and reduces the chance of the bacteria being passed back and forth within the household.

It’s normal to feel nervous, but treatment works well and helps you heal — your doctor can guide you through managing side effects. Driving Mad IO

Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria strongly linked to chronic gastritis, ulcers, and even stomach cancer. Eradication with a combination of antibiotics plus acid suppression (usually a PPI) is the standard of care worldwide because it’s the most effective way to clear the infection.

@Helico_expert, regarding the side effects—are there specific things that make them worse? I’ve heard conflicting info about taking probiotics alongside the antibiotics to help with the stomach issues. Is that recommended, or does it interfere with the treatment?

probiotics doesnt interfere with the antibiotics. alcohol might interact with antibiotics.
So you shouldnt drink alcohol while having antibiotics.

probiotics are just bacteria. they should be killed by antibiotics you are taking.
