Helicobacter
Hi, I am new to this site and see so many others suffering just like me, after being diagnosed with this about a month ago was put on antibiotics combined 3 lots, made me very ill they had to be changed. all of them make me very unwell with severe diarhoea and find I cant leave my place for a week while on them. But I dont think its worked, I think I still have this thing.
my question is,
are antibiotics the only way to eliminate this?
is there any other way, like key hole surgery for example?
I am also having manuka honey which is supposed to help.

I have read/seen some doctors making the argument that Helicobacter ddoesn't like Acidic environment, so it hides in the inner lining of the stomach and their point is PPIs block the acid and create a nice environment for the h-pylori to grow. So they tell you to get of the PPIs, eat more foods that are healthy and create and eventually H-pylori will go away. --- This approach may work well for people who have the bacteria in less quantity and who has no symptoms at all.
But if you are having the symptoms, which are bothering you more and the percentage of h-pylori is high, antibiotics are the only quick solution to try to eliminate them. Yes antibiotics can cause side effects from diarrhea, etc to some severe ones like Ulcerative colitis. But taking anti-biotics with good quantities of food and may be do 10 days instead of 14 days may lessen the side-effects.
Honey is good for nausea and some soothness of the stomach but I don't think it can help eliminate H-pylori.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Helicobacter
ok thanks for your replies, as say I am new here, only joined just the other week so to get used to this sites features.
I bought manuka honey to help it. The antibiotics do give me severe diarrhoea to the point I cant leave my home with severe diarhoea. When was on them for the week for this condition, I was up all night one night with severe diarrhoea and I had a blanket over me in 80 degree heat as I was cold from going to the toilet all night and felt completely empty inside and dehydrated. I was going to the toilet literally every 15min all through the night.
But from what I have read it seems this is the only way for this, I just wish there was another way to be honest. Rather then having to suffer even more on meds.
But will be going back to doctor as this has not gone, still getting symptoms.
Oh well.
What is ppi?

Re: Helicobacter
PPI is proton pump inhibitor like Omerprazole, etc. Since you have completed the treatment, is your concern what is the treatment failed and you have to take the anti-biotics again? And the reason you believe that the treatment may fail is because you still have the same symptoms?Ladywriter1968 wrote:ok thanks for your replies, as say I am new here, only joined just the other week so to get used to this sites features.

Your questions are valid, but there is nothing much even the Doc can do at this stage. Just wait 30 days from the day of the treatment completion and take the breath test. One week before the test, stop using PPIs if you are using them. Hopefully it comes back as negative (accuracy rate of 95%). Now you may ask what about the other 5%, you can also request Doc for a stool test too (along with the breath). If that comes back negative too(stool test will take a week), then your h-pylori is gone and it may take few weeks to few months for your stomach and intestines to get back to normal.
For hypertension, cholesterol and underactive thyroid, take your medications and just get some excerise like 30 min walk daily.

Re: Helicobacter
This is the response from helico_expert from a different topic on this forum.
----------------------
The severity of the disease seems not to correlate to H. pylori strain. Strangely, it's more to do with: 1. Host genetic; 2. diet; then 3. H. pylori. I believe (no evidence, only hypothetical) H. pylori is the catalyst that speed up the problem. For example, if a patient carries a stomach cancer gene, it is just a matter of time for the cancer to develop. H. pylori in this case, just speed up the process.
---------------------
Also he mentioned that cancer wont show up over night or in couple of months. It will take time, may be more than few months and there will be other symptoms.
---------------------
So did you complete your anti-biotics treatment? Did you take a follow-up breath test to confirm the eradication?
