2nd round Treatment, will antibiotics do it?

The cure of Hp usually requires antibiotics. Other things have been tried and have a weaker effect.

2nd round Treatment, will antibiotics do it?

Post by HelicoAway »

Hi,

I'm 24 yo. My first round of treatment wasn't successful, I'm waiting to see what will I get for the second round, what do you recommend?
I must say that I misjudged the importance of treating it and I stopped the first treatment after about 7 days (will not happen again).

I was diagnosed after complaining about "stomach inflation". I appear to be "full" all the time and it bugged me, the doctor recommended that I will do a blow test and it came positive.

the test is called - Helico. Pylori Breath tst, the first result was 68, the second was 38.

for the second round treatment the doctor refused to give me 3 antibiotics and prescribed -

metronizadole 250mg\tetracycline 250mg\omeprazole 20mg and pro-biotics lactobacillus. I asked her to give me amoxicillin and she told me that I got penicillin in the first round so there's no point of taking it again (but as I said, I only took it for 7 days), I read that amoxicillin is different than penicillin but she says that I'm not the doctor..

should I start the treatment she gave me? I don't want to go over it again.

I read that our eating habits affects some of the symptoms. I eat mostly protein will almost no carbohydrates, when I eat carbs I tend to gain fluids (I try to stay slim and cut) and I look "fatter" which I try to avoid. I avoid carbs in order to get slimmer. does this have a negative effect? I eat chicken, vaggies, cheese (all kind, a lot), fish, eggs, and sometimes red meat.

I tried to take off all kind of cheese\milk for two weeks and there was no difference of the swelling in the abdomen.

what about naturopathic remedies?

Thanks.

Sorry, I am a little confused by the top two statements. so the doctor did give you some antibiotics in the end?

anyway, you can update your doctor that amoxicillin is special to H. pylori. H. pylori for some reason, will not be resistant to amox. There are some publications out there mentioning about amox resistant H. pylori strains, but it is because the scientists used a lower cut off point to determine its resistance. So, for your information, unless you are allergic to amox, you can always add amoxicillin to your treatment.

another antibiotic that h. pylori will not get resistance to is bismuth. so you can always combine amox, bismuth, plus 2 other antibiotics and a PPI (eg. omeprazole) to boost the chance of success.

Finally, i agree that eating habit may improve your symtoms. I do not think naturopahtic remedies can kill H. pylori.

The doctor did gave me the mix I mentioned. 2 types of antibiotics and not three like everyone gets (is this ok? Second round with only 2 types of antibiotics?)

Should I insist for another round of Amos? She told me I already got it in the first round (muxipen) and there is no point of taking it again. What should I do? I only took it for 7 days, could this be the reason for the failure?

If my partner has helico too, could I get it again from her?

If I do, it will come back again and again until she'll get a treatment too?

if your partner is positive, there is a risk of reinfection.

i think 7 days is good enough. your treatment failure is most likely due to resistant h. pylori strain.

you can always seek second opinion for the treatment. I think you should try add amox or bismuth or both in your treatment.
