just diagnosed.any opinion on my rx?

hello all. I am a 55 yo male. have had gut issues for awhile and recently, after an ER visit for abd pain, pulled the trigger on a endoscopy. besides finding barrets esoph, hyaital hernia and gastritis, 12 biopsies (ouch) I was finally informed I am h.pylori positive. the meds prescribed are, amoxicillin2000mg/day,clarithromycin1000mg/day,dexlansoprazole60mg/day. I hadn't seen this exact treatment on the list so figured its worth asking the real pros!! I am starting tomorrow, and am not looking forward to 14 days of this, I expect it will be unpleasant? In addition to your opinion as to the expected success of this treatment, do you have any advise as to diet, suppliments etc. during and after the regimen. much thanks ahead of time and any pointers, advise, jabs, or questions feel free, George

Amox, Clari and PPI. That is the standard triple therapy.

Due to the high dosage of antibiotics, you probably will have some bowel problem. Also, due to clarithromycin, you will probably have "metalic" feeling in your mouth.

no special diet or supplement required.

if key to kill H. pylori is to complete the treatment. there will be some side effects. try to tolerate them unless they are really really bad.

ok, thanks. my apologies for not noticing that this is standard t. the dex on the ppi threw me off , that is a long acting once a day dose vs 2x 30mg. and the antibiotics are the same. I am hoping to leave on a long anticipated jeep expedition thru Utah, so maybe I should throw in a box of adult diapers?!?!

update; end of only day 2 and I think 12 more will be rough. this is a lot of pills and man do they make me nauseated! feels like poison. well it is hopefully for the bugs too. ugh. I hope this works.

thanks for the support. dose 4 last nite, and 5 this am have been worse, increasingly. will this likely make me increasingly sicker? I have read some horror stories and fear the cure is worse than the disease. should I eat immediately on top of this handful of pills or leave it to work awhile? as usual my doctor is too busy making money to be a doctor so thanks again for any advise ahead of time. looks like the trip is off for me! damn, 2nd one this spring, I fear retirement is not what it was supposed to be!!! as this is only 1 of my ailments!!

last day of treatment!!! black tongue and copper mouth goodbye!! and , I hope h. pylori. Im not sure I feel any different from when I started, maybe a bit more 'regular' and the lump in my throat is not so 'there'? I hope it worked , stool test in 1 month. gotta go swallow that handful of poison.

I feel your pain, started in April down this road.
Just had breath test to see if the bug was still there..
YUCK!! have to do another round of treatment.
What a summer, how you feeling now?
Dr. says family members can't catch from me but I sure wonder.
Anyone have any info?
