Newcomer here, PLEASE can I share, and hear back from you?

Post by ewaight1994 »

Hello everyone,

I'm Emma, 18 years of age. For the past year, I've been suffering from a range of really nasty symptoms which have made me uncomfortable, paranoid and downright miserable. It's only in the past few months they have become more severe and I've contacted my doctor to diagnose it:

I suffer from TERRIBLE nausea, especially at night. Often this starts off as REALLY loud, persistent groaning, popping, whining, griping sensations and movement in my stomach. Its so strong that when I lie on my stomach I can feel the vibrations of it. Sometimes I pass wind (from both ends) but often it leads to a night of sitting up in bed feeling like I about to violently throw up, but I never physically vomit. I'd call myself a proper sickness-phobe, so it's an especially panicky experience for me and so I sometimes shake uncontrollably and feel my heart racing.

Through research, I've only just discovered the Helicobacter Pylori. Since then I've just assumed and treated as IBS and, heartburn and acid reflux before moving onto a Gluten-free diet.

During the day, when I'm hungry and I've eaten food, I burp like God know's what. It's very embarrassing, and they seem to 'come up' very, very slowly but once I've started I can't stop. My doctor thought (seeing as I was worse off after eating bread, pasta and stodgy foods) that I could be slightly intolerant to Gluten, and I've been on a Gluten-free diet for two weeks now, but my symptoms are still persisting.

I've also made a vague link to bad mood swings which apparently can be a symptom of Helicobacter Pylori (?) Ashamedly, I can be an absolute b*tch from hell from day to day, and I sometimes really freak out and throw things, but afterwards feel very low for several days on end because I basically just feel so fed up with being empty and poorly.

Lastly, although I feel a bit embarrassed to admit it, I caught Thrush about a year ago. I treated it with Cannestan Duo and thought that was that, but I've read that the bacteria can spread to the stomach causing Helicobacter?

Anyway, I have a check up in a few weeks and my doctor said if I'm still suffering from symptoms I can be referred to the hospital for an endoscopy. What I'm really asking is, did anyone else suffer like this before they were diagnosed with Helicobacter?? I've been reading forums for months now but I finally want to talk to other people and hopefully feel some comfort from that.

Thank you for taking time to read this, I wish you all well x

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear your story. 18 years old is very young.
The first thing to do is to get diagnosed for Helicobacter (breath test, stool test or blood test). If you are positive, you can eradicate it with triple therapy and hopefully your symptoms will then disappear. I have already heard Hp+ patients talking to me about swing mood, nausea, burping... However, I can assure you that your thrush treatment has NOTHING to do with Helicobacter.
Also, please be careful with what you read on internet. Everyone can write everything without knowing what they are talking about. Most of the time it will make you more worried and stressed. You are going to tell me: what about me? Well, I am not a doctor (I work with one though), I just talk from my experience on Helicobacter and I'm always very careful with what I write. Doesn't mean you have to trust me. The best will always be to talk to a specialist like a gastroenterologist in your case. I admet it is good to hear other stories sometime which is why we have this forum.
Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your advice :) Well you've put my mind at ease a little anyway, hopefully I'll get to the bottom of it!
