Positive h pylori result.I am in new york. Doctor put me on metronidazole 500 mg 2x a day and amoxicllin 500 mg 3x a day and raniditine increase the dose to 300 mg 2x a day. (I cannot tolerate PPI'S).
I read that my current course isn't that popular in the US because it isn't that effective for a first line option.
I am on the 5th day of this course with insomnia/anxiety/nervousness (from the metronidazole) for 3 days so far.
Do you suggest I continue this course for another 2 days and stop or stop immediately( i'd like to stop as the metronidazole has me screwed up!) and continue with clarithromycin 500 mg 2x, amoxicillin 1000 mg 2x which is a first line treatment in the United States? Or should I just add clarithromycin to this mix and continue for another 5 days? what about bismuth? I guess I don't know what to do and neither does my doctor.
Advice what to do from this 6th day onward would be greatly appreciated.

Since you started this treatment, I suggest you finish the course before trying other treatment. The triple therapy you are having is considerably effective. I would recommend you to do a breath test 2 weeks after your current treatment ends to confirm the eradication.

insomnia/anxiety/nervousness? I'm not sure this comes from Metronidazole. This is a very commun antibiotic, your treatment is not a mistake. Please finish your treatment without forgetting doses, stopping in the middle or adding/changing antibiotics. Also don't expect the symptoms (if you have any) to stop straight away after treatment, it sometimes takes a bit of time for your stomach to recover. A healthy diet can help but most of all, TRY TO RELAX. Don't forget the breath test 2/3 weeks after treatment.
