Six Failed Treatments and Counting

Hello,

I would like some advice as to the options available for my situation with 6 failed treatments for helicobacter. The following are the treatments up until a few months ago:

1. Nexium 20mg, Klacid 250mg & Flagyl 200mg for 7 days.
2. Nexium 20mg, Klacid 250mg & Flagyl 400mg for 7 days.
3. Nexium 20mg, Klacid 250mg & Flagyl 400mg for 7 days.
4. Nexium 20mg, Klacid 500mg & Flagyl 400mg for 7 days.
5. Nexium 40mg, Klacid 500mg & Flagyl 400mg for 7 days.
6. Nexium 40mg, Klacid 500mg & Ciproxin 500mg for 7 days.

Although the affects of feeling better were present after the last couple of treatments that only lasted for about 2 to 3 weeks. I more or less had the feeling that the treatments failed, the breath tests only confirmed.
Is there anything I could do or ask that my GP does that could see success in my next treatment?
I would prefer to avoid CIPROXIN as the side effects experienced with this drug were not "ideal".
I have experienced an allergic reaction to Amoxycilian many years ago as light pink rash over my body.

Your 1 - 5 treatment is really... same. Your bacteria is obviously resistant to Klacid and Flagyl. Now, probably also Cipro.

Are there any doctors that you know or could recommend for treatment here in Melbourne?

There certainly is a way to test the antibiotic resistance. But you'll need to book an appointment for endoscopy. Ask your specialist for the antibiotic sensitivity test before treatment. Sorry that I cannot recommend you any specialist in Melbourne.

That was a very quick reply, thankyou very much. I will visit my GP with the information from the publication and also ask for a referal for endoscopy.
Will the sensitivity test indicate the antibiotics to use for the erradication of my strain of bacteria?

yes. That journal article mentioned the antibiotics that were tested on H. pylori before treatment. Briefly, it includes, amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, tetracyclin, rifabutin, and ciprofloxacin.

I would also suggest going to a Naturopath. They can help you with your diet and other things to complement the medication doctors have given you. Your well being must be absolutely shot. I know mine is. And i've just started my treatment last monday... good luck...

yes, you can ask your specialist to do an antibiotic sensitivity test from your biosy collected from endoscopy. It's not commonly done, but worth it.
