Hi i am a 27 yr old female & have recently been diagnised with Helicobacter through both the blood test and breath test after many instances of gastro like symptoms, nausea, and even low iron.
The treatment i was given was a 7 day course of antibiotics known as NEXIUM HP7 in Australia it consists of:
Amoxycillin 500g
Clarithromycin 500g
Esomeprazole 20g
I know my mum who also had to do the treatment tried the first time and stopped half way through so it didn't work but was successful for her 2nd time around.. im hoping that this is the case with me too because i am on my 7th day today and i am really hating it. It makes me have a headache and get dizzy and disorientated. I suffer fro anxiety and this treatment has only made it worse.
I am wandering a few things and hope someone can tell me more:
1. how effective this hp7 treatment in Australia and if there is a successful eradication rate?
2. how long should i wait to take the breath test or blood test to check if its gone?
3. What can i take after finishing the antibiotics to help my body recover from the medication?
I am so glad i found this foundation, its so nice to know that there more awareness building around this awful bacteria.

Re: Nexium Hp7
Hi there, the success rate of Hp7 is about 80% in australia.
you'll have to stop any medication for at least 4 weeks before the next breath test. You cannot do blood test anymore as it'll be positive for 1-3 years.
after the 7 days treatment, you can go back to your normal diet. some people would avoid gluten food.
however, you may not find immediate improvement after the treatment. it takes time for your stomach to recover to normal state. some people take months for the recovery.
nevertheless, your second breath test after 4 weeks will tell you if your treatment is successful and you'll know if you are at the right direction.

I also struggle to take this medication. By day 4 I was having a full blown anxiety attack, sore, dry mouth, racing heart etc. Not nice side effects but hopefully the medication works.
Re: Nexium Hp7
....I forgot to mention that I also get slightly dizzy and light-headed. While I've been on the course I take acidopholus tablets with meals - stops some symptoms but unfortunately not the panic attacks.

Re: Nexium Hp7
Unfortunately you'll have to complete the antibiotics in full course to avoid resistance.
Also, try to gather positive thoughts. You need to know H. pylori is a very very chronic infection. It'll take many many years to develop ulcers and cancers. Most people were infected when they are in their childhood and carry it without knowing. Only about 10-20% of infected people get stomach symptoms, and normally in their 20s-40s (yr old).
In addition, whatever terrible symptoms you find in the forum or internet, is biased. Most of the member here are probably like you, having symptoms for a long time, desperate for a cure, cant find treatment elsewhere, etc etc. People who are treated successfully rarely join the forum discussion.
So, I need you to think positive and distract yourself from thinking about your stomach problem. The more you think about it, the more likely you'll feel something wrong.

Re: Nexium Hp7
I thought I would sign up the forum and make a post as I recently finished a 14 day course of Nexium HP7 in total I took 8 tablets a day for 14 days so 112 tablets in total.
Let me just say this course had no really bad side effects at all, the only thing which I noticed is I had a metallic taste in my mouth tho this is probably going to happen when you have that many tablets.
If you are affected by stomach ulcers then I would advise to give this a shot it is not that bad at all and any one should be able to do it!

Re: Nexium Hp7
wonderful experience sharing. In this forum, most of the posts are about the bad side effects of antibiotics. It is good to see someone sharing their experience with no side effects. actually majority of the people doesnt experience severe side effects. It's a statistical bias that mainly the people who experience side effects seek internet help and posted in the forum.
