Hello... was dx with HP on monday and was put on klacid HP7 (combi 3 meds - klacid, ospamox, controloc)...
Question:
1) should all 3 meds be taken before meal? or the antibiotics should be after meal?
2) what food should be avoided during this time?
Thanks in advance for the responses

Hi,
Antibiotics are usually taken with a meal (during or after), they shouldn't be taken on a empty stomach.
It's difficult to tell what foods you should avoid as everyone is different, but usually people tend to avoid spicy & acidic foods/drinks, such as coffee, orange juice, tomatos, onions, garlic, spices in general. Alcohool should definetely be avoided!!!!
I find that steamed vegetables with grilled turkey/chicken breast are usually ok.
Hope you feel better soon!
Kind regards,
Luci.

People react differently to medication, I usually feel a lot worse while I am on antibiotics and gradually get better when I finish the course. Remember that compliance is very important when treating HP, so take your meds in regular intervals and try not miss any.
I developed severe gastritis after HP eradication and I find that eating sometimes makes the pain better, only to make it worse about an hour later when all the acids start working on digesting the food. Maybe try eating smaller portions? Also, try eating things that are easier to digest, for example some steamed veggies with a lean meat (fish/turley) instead of a big steak and fries
Good luck!

After changing the timing of taking the antibiotics after meal... i do get a sense of a better relieve compared to a few days ago when i started taking it before meal (as told by the pharmacy)... however I get the gastric pain and hunger feeling again pretty fast... like within 1 hour (max 2)... no matter what i eat... but it does get better after food though... and then comes back
before i changed the timing... i did call up my doc and he told me to stop the antibiotics as i might be sensitive to it... take the controloc for 3 days and reintroduce back... however if i'm having relieve after taking the antibiotics after meals... should i just continue with it? or stop?
can we just stop the antibiotics midway?

Hi,
I'm not a doctor, my in my humble opnion, with you stop taking antibiotics midway they might be less effective next time you take them as you will build up a resistance, so you might end up needing different antibiotics. You should discuss the pros & cons of stopping any medication with your doctor. Treatment for HP is known to have some nasty side effects, I had the treatment about 4 or 5 times in the past 2 years and every single time I was so ill from the antibiotics that I could barely get out of bad, but I kept taking them because that was the only way to get rid of the bug.
I'm not telling you to do the same though, you should definitely discuss the situation with you doctor. Ask how stopping the antibiotics midway affect the effectiveness of the treatment and make a decision.
Best wishes,
Luci.
