H pylori related to sore throat?

Can H pylori cause a sore throat? I had a fundoplacation surgery about 15 years ago and I am having problems with reflux. I can understand having a sore throat with reflux but my concern is my throat really hurts and it hurts to swallow. I clear my throat and cough alot. When I start on Amoxicillin my throat is always better within 48 hours of being on antibiotic. But soon after going off antibiotics the sore throat comes back and gets worse each day until I have to go back on antibiotic. I was 14 when I had my fundoplacation surgery.
Thank you

H.pylori has never been connected with sore throat. The highest level H.pylori can reach is probably C6 which is the upper end of the oesophagus where a 1-2 cm diameter piece of mucosa conatining acid secreting gastric tissue exists in 5% of people - (this is called a "sentinel patch" or "gastric heterotopia") - this can be seen on endosopy sometimes as the 'scope is being removed. However, it is usually not the cause of symptoms and is a normal variant. One could imagine that an H.pylori infection there could lead to swollen lymph nodes and they could cause soreness. Perhaps also inflammation at the esophago-gastric junction could cause swelling and then lead to coughing or burping and finally soreness from the extra muscular activity.
But I have a solution. Have a serology and then if that is positive have a breath test for H.pylori. If it shows up then take a strong treatment for it. I am certain that H.pylori is going to be harmful to someone with a past fundoplication and so I always eradicate the bug in that situation. :geek:

That's interesting... many people I know with H. Pylori also suffer from a constant bad breath/sore throat combination. Whether or not that's related to H. Pylori I don't know.

An H. pylori infection can result in the overproduction of acid which we then reflux Done! up the esophagus. When the acid moves up in that direction it burns and irritates the lining of the esophagus and can cause a sore throat. As far as the swollen glands and the white I would have to suggest getting that looked at.
