Low Stomach Acid vs Too Much

A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with h pylori. Finished the triple therapy, felt great during the treatment with the exception of a few side effects, but now am back to feeling the same as before, if not worse. I have an appt next week with a GI to delve deeper into what is going on. What I am having some difficulty with is the conflicting information that I have been reading in regards stomach acid levels. It seems that the symptoms of low stomach acid are the same as high acid, and I have read in numerous articles that the bacteria thrives in the LOW acid environment, even helping it to originally propogate. This makes sense to me, as h pylori seems to affect mostly middle aged people and your stomach acid levels drop as you get older. If this is the case, then why is everyone automatically prescribed acid reducing medications? I haven't had my acid levels checked, but I am starting to wonder if this information is correct as it seems that a lot of people have difficult times eradicating the bacteria on traditional therapies. I am taking lansoprazole in the interim as prescribed by my internist, but haven't really experienced complete relief. Has anyone had any experience with this?
