First treatment didn't work...

My GI did an endoscopy and confirmed Hp. He put me on a 14 day course of Clarithromycin 500mg 2x day, Omerprazole 40mg 2x day, and Amocicillin 500mg 2x day. I am one day away from finishing treatment. For the first ten days everything worked beautifully, but on day 11 my diarrhea came back and on day 12 my stomach pains came back. Does this mean the Hp is immune to the medicine? If so, which medicine and what should I ask my doctor for now?
Thanks so much.
M

Hi, its too soon to say either way if the bug is cured now or not. My opinion is that significant side effects from antibiotics means that you are taking them (that's good!) and that they have reached high levels in your body (that is REALLY good!!). After finishing, take whatever helps and expect symptoms to settle. Have a breath test one month later to prove the Hp is gone. Then, if all clear, expect gradual improvement over the coming months as the stomach heals. Anything wierd happens then ask your doctor for advice - everyone is different unfortunately. Good Luck.

Something similar happened to me after my first round of antibiotics, only the symptoms came back weeks after treatment. They were much, much worse than before treatment from there on out. My mother had the same issue and has been on antibiotics many times. I no longer have symptoms but my mother still does, sadly.

Hello - my treatment didn't seem to work as well, I was on the 4 capsule/tablet treatment 2 nexium & 2 Amoxicillin I'm not 100% sure weather it was Amoxicillin as I cant remember, It was a 7 day treatment, it started very well I felt much better, the condition I had was for 4 years after countless visits to the doctor with CT scans xrays etc, my doctor could not figure this out, all I knew is that I had stomach pain & quite serve at times, so I left it for a year as my doctor had no answer for me, but I went back & demanded more tests & FINALLY had a breath test & there it was H-PYLORY, (i've had 1 treatment only) as I said I felt better and the treatment seemed to work & I 'generally' feel better but I still have a bit of stomach pain with the usual symptoms ie tight chest, pain in different parts of tummy, constipation, these symptoms seem to come and go I'll be all right for some weeks then it will appear again, (I have had a second breath test & it was negative?) but yet I still have symptoms, not as bad but yet still there I dont know what else to do? I am 35 years old & this has been a frustrating annoying problem that just seems to linger my energy levels are all over place my moods vary a bit, as I read that h-pylori can lead to depression & such, please anyone, can you recommend some treatment to cure this for once and for all! 5 years of this is enough! my doctor says your second test is negative? but still discomfort is there?
*Upon doing some research I found an interesting site
http://h-pylori-symptoms.com
there seems to be some natural treatments/cures for HP, please have a look! this guy talks about matula herbal formula, & the need to cut out certain foods like:
cows milk, soy, & gluten, doe's anyone know if there is a true basis for this treatment? as Im willing to try anything at the moment to get rid of this for once and for all!
Tim.

Hi Tim,
Yeah, I understand what you are going through as I am in a similar situation. Maybe the medication is the causative agent for the "post-Helico gastritis", because I see no other explanation. If the Hp is eradicated it can not cause the symptoms, so why are they there? By looking at its structure, the macrolide compound (clarithromycin) looks as something that is not fun at all to ingest -- and we take quite heavy doses of it during the treatment. I still wonder why US puts people on 14 day treatment while EU only 7 days. It is a big difference in my opinion, is there any rationale?

Hey ppl, have a look at this article.
http://www.womentowomen.com/digestionan ... ndida.aspx
What it talks about is yeast (candida) and its effect on the body. I am guessing that since we took such a large quantity of antibiotics, that the flora in our digestive system has altered allowing the candida to grow out of control.
Symptoms of candida include;
Generalized: Fatigue, lethargy, migraine headaches, weakness, dizziness, sensory disturbances, hypoglycemia, muscle pain, respiratory problems, chemical sensitivities.
Gastrointestinal: Oral thrush, diarrhea, constipation, rectal itching, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), flatulence, food sensitivities.
Have a look into it, and if you still haven't sussed out why you have retained the symptoms depsite showing 'negative' for H. pylori, then get a stool test done to check for any abnormal bacterial growth.
Kind regards

Hi People.. I have also found a good resource on
h pylori symptoms. They have got good articles to realize the early symptoms of h pylori infection but didn't provide any info on its remedies. Can anyone suggest a good article on H pylori treatment which is freshly recognized by medical tests?

Hi,
People react differently to medication, I usually feel a lot worse while I am on antibiotics and gradually get better when I finish the course. Remember that compliance is very important when treating HP, so take your meds in regular intervals and try not miss any.
I developed severe gastritis after HP eradication and I find that eating sometimes makes the pain better, only to make it worse about an hour later when all the acids start working on digesting the food. Maybe try eating smaller portions? Also, try eating things that are easier to digest, for example some steamed veggies with a lean meat (fish/turley) instead of a big steak and fries
Good luck!
Luci.
