Carafate..What are the benefits of this medication..??..How effective is it..??

I tried Carafate and it did nothing for me. Frankly, I felt it made me symptoms worse, but I have to admit I was under a serious bacteria attack during the time I used it. Even water, at that point, burned. When I was at the Immediate Care the nurse gave me "GI cocktail" to get a temporary reprieve from the burning; that did nothing either. I think when the h.pylori is at its worst inflammation, nothing helps other than antibiotics and a PPH.

Carafate creates a barrier between the gastric juice and stomach lining. It's meant to protect the acid from attacking the stomach. It will not kill H. pylori if that is what you are asking.

Yes, that's what I was told, but I think I was so inflamed at that point that I nothing gave me the slightest relief. And all I wanted was relief at that point.

most of the painful sensation was due to the acid attacking your inflamed stomach lining. So having higher dose of PPI should give you symptom relieve.

I hope so. So far I'm not feeling it. Perhaps the PPI and blocker takes a week to have an effect.
