Hello,

Recently diagnosed with H. Pylori and gastritis and started the quadruple treatment with antibiotics for 14 days. However, my friend lost his dad while i was receiving treatment and i had to visit him. He lives in a third world country and i suppose i ate food that is not cleaned properly. Normally, I only cook and eat at home.

My question is, can i get reinfected while receiving the treatment? or those antibiotics also prevent getting new h. pylori infection besides eliminating existing one? I’m quite obsessed that i fucked up my treatment and will have to get treatment again.

Thanks for answers.

It's not easy to catch H. pylori via food sharing.
I assume your friends brush their teeth.
If they maintain their oral hygiene, then there will be no H. pylori in the mouth to spread.

I'm sorry for your diagnosis and friend's death. Worrying is normal at this time. Antibiotics kill H. pylori infections, but they don't prevent new ones if you're exposed again. Safe food and hygiene are important, especially when traveling. Discuss any treatment or reinfection concerns with your doctor for specific guidance. Look for yourself!
