Hi all

I’d really like to have an opinion on what’s going on for my son ( almost 9)

If anyone’s a parent and has a child who’s had it, would be great to hear from you I’m in the uk , london.

I’ve had one private GP ( not a pediatrician but a doc that has been practicing for over 30 years and is very much into natural healing when possible , be the into the microbiome aswell)

Regular nhs gp telling me to give my son the treatment ( omeprozole , amoxicillin and some other antibiotic )

From my understanding some people have HP already in there system BUT when their immunity is down something causes hp to flare BUT I’ve messaged with professor in Australia ( yes I’m that despearate mum🫣🙇🏻‍♀️) who says hpylori shows symptoms when immunity is strong so I’m confused!

Brief - my son had a 24 pretty heavy V&dD💩 bug in October half term for 24 hours.
Late November complained of sore throat, cold like symptoms that turned into a v & D thing again but didn’t last long.
Beginning of November complaining of tummy pains again, stool has been on and off strange consistency ( don’t want to make any one sick and don’t know how much info to put on here )
2nd week in dec tested positive for STREP A ( interesting that his main symptoms with strep was stomach related and swollen lymphnodes in neck)

He’s had 10 days of amoxicillin recently for strep.

Post antibiotic he still complaining of tummy pain and chest pain which now I understand is heartburn/ indigestion.
He did a stool test which came up positive for hpylori.

Very confused as to wether or not to do the protocol of antibiotics n omeprozole so soon after a round of amoxicillin ( it’s been a week since end of that)

What to do😩

He’s well in himself only 2 major things are tummy pains in the morning as soon as he opens his eyes and stools not normal.( today complaining that he can’t breathe or shortness of breath)
During the day he’s ok.

He was off he food for a while, loves breakfasts but doesn’t want it coz he’s scared of the pain. He’s into Greek yogurt now and I’m putting high level manuka honey with it, sauerkraut etc

I’ve got mastic gum via nature doc.
Don’t really believe in over the counter probiotics

Chamomile teas.

Broccoli sprouts

Do I push nhs for this breath test?

Do I ignore the fact that he’s going to have a load more of antibiotics and deal with gut health after? My research shows that this treatment doesn’t always help and can cause antibiotic resistance .

I’m concerned about stomach ulcers 😩

Ur advice is gratefully appreciated .

Can we do omeprozole and lactobacillus rheummus for example for a week and see.

Sorry super long winded, appreciate anyone’s time to read this

X

am sorry to hear about your son’s situation. Normally, we do not prescribe antibiotics for children to treat H. pylori because they rarely experience symptoms. However, since your son is clearly suffering, treatment is warranted.

Considering that your son seems to be dealing with other infections right now, and given that H. pylori is a chronic, slow-developing infection and he is still very young, the risk of developing stomach cancer is extremely low. Perhaps you could discuss with the paediatrician the option of prescribing a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) to help control his stomach acid. This would be a good step to prevent stomach ulcers while he recovers from his other infections.

While you are waiting for his other health issues to clear up, it would be a sensible idea for everyone else living under the same roof to be tested for H. pylori. Then, any household members who test positive can take antibiotics together to prevent the possibility of him becoming re-infected later.
