I posted about a month and a half ago regarding a persistent h. pylori infection. I dropped off a stool specimen to the lab today and found out that the last 2 times I gave a specimen they gave me the wrong specimen cup. The cup had cary-blair medium in the last 2 tests. The phlebotomists told me that for an antigen test it was supposed to be in an empty sterile container and that it is likely that the results that I was given were not accurate. My results both times were positive. Is it possible that the positive results were not accurate because it was placed in the cary-blair medium vs. an empty sterile container for the stool antigen test? Also, can a stool culture be used to confirm h. pylori eradication or is it just the stool antigen?

Also can some urine on the stool affect the stool antigen results?

I have not processed stool antigen test myself. But by understanding of the principle, the medium (or urine) should not affect the antigen test.

Antigen test is detecting the proteins on H. pylori. it doesnt matter if it's dead or alive. As long as there is H. pylori protein, it'll show positive.
