Dear H pylori community, Helico Expert and Barjammer,

I am a 23 year old male living in the United States who has been diagnosed with H. pylori since 2015. I have taken five treatments which are listed below. All have failed and tests have shown that my strain of H pylori is resistant to clarithromycin. I am currently taking Omeprazole 20mg twice daily to try to control my infection as instructed by my gastroenterologist.

Failed treatments:

Clarithromycin resistant H. Pylori, status post treatment x5.

Triple therapy, failed twice
Quadruple therapy (Tetracycline, Pepto-Bismol, Flagyl and PPI) failed
Levaquin, Amoxicillin, Flagyl and PPI, failed
Rifabutin, Amoxicillin and BID PPI, failed

I have posted on this forum before asing for help. This time my gastroenterologist encouraged that I contact Barry Marshall. Barry Marshall's Office then advised me to post my query on this discussion forum. I am desperately asking for your help and any other suggestions you may have to help cure my infection.

Thank you

I think you need to find a laboratory in your local area that can culture the HP and find out exactly what antibiotics it is resistant to.
otherwise, the continuous treating it blindly may cause more harm than good.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have had a culture of Hp (Mayo Clinic) that showed it’s resistant to Clarithromycin. Do you imagine I can be resistant to the other previous medicines like rifabutin? Thank you again for your reply!

oh yes.. we have seen strains that are resistant to 3 or 4 antibiotics.
In your case, because you tried almost everything, the antibiotic sensitivity test will tell us which antibiotics can be reused.

One more question: does this mean another culture From a biopsy which means an endoscope?
