H.Pylori treatment and possible weight gain?

Hello:
I am new to this forum.
I began having upper abdominal pain two months ago. A few days later, GERD (acid reflux) symptoms began as well. Odd coincidence
Had upper endoscopy, which showed both gastritis and gastroesophagits as well. Gastroenterologist said both conditions were mild.
The endoscopy also showed: Infection with H. Pylori.
I find it odd coincidence that acid reflux symptoms appeared only a few days after the upper abdominal pain. Since their causes are supposedly different. Another odd finding was that over the past few months I had gained 16 pounds (1.14 stone?) without any change in diet or exercise that I'm aware of...
Dr prescribed triple treatment: Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, and a PPI (Omeprazole) for 2 weeks.
==================
Question:
Since I had this unexplained weight gain--prior to treatment, I am concerned that eradicating H.Pylori might cause even more such weight gain. This would not be very healthy. And might in turn make the acid reflux worse. Is it the case that the weight gain after treatment-- when it occurs-- is only due to enhanced appetite, or is there some metabolic cause fro it? How often does this in fact happen?
Alternatively, might it be that the gastritis/esophagitis was in some way or another contributing to the weight gain. And that I might actually do better at losing weight once the infection is successfully treated?
Thanks
eliuri
P.S. I have had IBS for many years apart from all this
