Diagnosed with H Pylori

Hello all,

In the beginning of July I started getting these issues where my heart would feel like it is pounding after eating. Depending also on the meal I would sometimes have difficulty getting to bed. Sometimes it would take me until 2am. For the past 2-3 years I haven't had any other issues besides feeling tired all of the time. I would be able to get 8-9 hours of sleep. Since July I haven't been able to get a lot of sleep. It varies by day between 5-7 hours of sleep.

I had an endoscopy done back in September and my GI doc didn't actually tell me I had H Pylori, he said I had a stomach infection and prescribed me the 2 antibiotics and the pharmacy version of Prilosec. He didn't tell me to have any follow-ups and to take Pilosec twice a day (without any mention of an end date). While I was close to the end of the treatment of 10 days, I started feeling very bloated. Gas-X seemed to have helped. I did take all of the prescribed medication.

I was feeling better and didn't have as much of the heart issues even though my sleep duration wasn't any better. This past Monday I had a fried chicken sandwich and french fries (each from different locations) and the issue came back. I was unable to get to sleep until 2am and was up 4 hours later. The day after I did get 7 1/2 hours of sleep. Last night I ate pork chops, baked lemon potatoes, carrots and broccoli and had the same issues again.

I know I probably need to find a new GI doc since obviously the one I went to doesn't care about following up with me. Does this sound like all of it is related to the virus? I called the GI doc and he said that this would take a while to heal and to continue on the Prilosec. I have switched over to Nexium as the Prilosec hasn't really helped.

Thanks,
Nick

I think it is important to find out if your H. pylori is still present. If it is, you can continue Nexium or any ppi for the rest of your life as H. pylori is the root of many GI problem.

To do the follow up test, you'll have to stop PPI for 3 to 4 weeks. Alternatively, you can follow the following guideline to control your acid before the breath test.

Yes I think you should consider the opinion of another doctor.
