Hello ,

I have a question . It appears that Bismuth Salt helps in eradicating HPylori . Why is it then , that if H pylori never develops resistance to Bismuth Salt , it is never prescribed with the first line triple therapy , but only with the second or sequential therapies ? Thanks for any reply .

bismuth is a heavy metal that H. pylori will never become resistant to. So you can repeat it as many times as you like. Some people do add bismuth in the first line therapy to improve the cure rate. There is no particular reason why it should be in the first line therapy. Perhaps the side effect of having really dark stool scare people off. Doctors may think you have internal bleeding and give you even worse treatment.
