Ulcerative Colitis - possible Helicobacter infection?

My husband is currently suffering with a severe flare up of UC. He was diagnosed in December 2013. His current flare up has been ongoing for the last 12 months with the following symptoms:
- diarrhea (goes to the toilet upto 30 times per day)
- stomach cramps
- inflammation of the rectal area
- bloody/mucous stools
- joint pain
- severe lethargy
Over the last 12 months he has been on the following medication:
- mezavant
- azathioprine
- prednisolone
- infliximab infusion
- vitamin d
- probiotics
He is almost at his last option (surgical removal of bowels) and we are trying desperately to avoid that. He has also had stool testing, colonoscopies and blood tests completed. They have not found any unusual results from these.
Is there a chance that this could be a Helicobacter infection causing the flare up and it just hasn't been picked up from the above testing? If not, is there any advice or any recommendation you could offer?
Thanks very much in advance.
