Hello all,
My symptoms began sep 1st of this year with a dull ache in my upper left abdomen, couple weeks later it got worst to the point where i couldnt eat. in october took the stool test and it came back positive, 10 days ago i just finished the antibiotic treatment, bismuth, metronidazole, doxycycline, and zantac. Doctor told me to stop the zantac when i finished the anti biotics, so i did. Now im getting some discomfort pain when i dont eat or a couple of times ive ate chicken with spices which seemed to cause some burning. How long will these symptoms persist and should i go back on the anti acid or should i use an over the counter antiacid, been using maalox last couple of days?
Thank You

If you feel very uncomfortable with your stomach, you can continue zantac or even stronger acid reducing drug. Normally stronger PPI (proton pump inhibitor) is given to patient for a month if he is suspected with ulcer.
in regards to the recovery, unfortunately that is very subjective. Some people recover immediately and some take months or years to go back to normal. It really depends on how much damage has already been done by H. pylori and the immune response.
Nevertheless, remember to get a follow up breath test in a month time to make sure your H. pylori is truly eradicated.

honestly, it could be anything. But since you have detected with H. pylori, I think it is sensible to try getting rid of it. The antibiotics will probably get rid of your underlying unknown stomach disease.

What should my diet be after treatment can i eat fast carbs? Currently i am eating very clean, i do notice when eating something with a lot of spices i feel some burning in my stomach. I just saw the doctor she said to not take the zantac unless i need to, my question is if my stomach had inflammation should i not take the zantac to help heal it? Or should i just wait it out, currently i am taking aloe vera, dgl licorice, and slippery elm to help. Also because ive lost about 15-18lbs i want to know if i can eat fast carbs such as a maltodextrin weight gainer or muffins, etc. eating very clean healthy food is not allowing me to take in enough calories, i know this because i log all the food i eat.

there is no guideline for what not to eat after treatment. So you can eat anything according to what you think is right. If lots of spices make you sick, then you should avoid it. Probably is allergies. Not to sure why you cant take zantac. Anyway, your doctor should know your situation the best.

Hi Tazy,
do you know if you still have H. pylori? If you have ulcer, you need to take PPI (the strong one, not from counter), for a month or until it's healed (via specialist examination).
if you dont have H. pylori and ulcer, you can take counter anti acid to control the symptom. Speak to your local GP or pharmacist about your concern.
