Hi All,

Just got breath test diagnosed with H Pylori at a local urgent care facility.

The docs there prescribed me the standard "triple therapy", amoxacillin and clarithromycin, etc.

My gastro doc however says he wants me to take Pylera, which seem to have a higher cure rate? But is it stronger I guess??

Which would you guys start out with? Are the side effects from Pylera that much worse than standard triple therapy?

Thanks!

in brief, triple therapy has a cure rate of 80%. However, this cure rate is lower in most europe countries and in some developing countries where antibiotics are abused. If you have taken clarithromycin before for whatever reason, then the success rate will be lower. Clarithromycin is a very common antibiotic for respiratory and many other infection.

Pylera on the other hand uses tetracyclin as the main antibiotic. It's less commonly used as it is more expensive. So the chances of resistance will be lower and hence cure rate will be higher.

in terms of side effects, it's subjective. most people tolerate will to both treatments well. In my opinion, i would listen to specialist as he would know the resistance rate well in your country. if i have not answered your question, do ask again.
