Odd question

Hello there Dr Marshal
I am returning after (what seems to be the case and I'm so happy) eradication of H Pylori (fingers crossed)

I was just reading about how H P affects people in all the OH SO MANY ways.

One thing that just occured to me as I was reading. I have a really bad sense of smell in general. Before my antibiotic course certain things used to smell really strongly and others I couldn't smell at all when others could (example... passing a field and that really really strong cow manure smell ... everyone would be pew pew ing ..but I couldn't smell a thing!! ) . Also..the main thing that sprung to mind.. was I used to get a smell of smelly socks nearly every single day. I was the only person who could smell it. Since eradication.. this hasn't happened. (2 months ago now) Is this coincidental or could it be associated with what the H P had been doing to me??

Very intersted in your answer.

Regards

Natalie

Very interesting question indeed. Because I suspect your smelling ability is affected by bacteria and the antibiotic treatment knocked out the bacteria that block or affect the selective smelling ability of yours.

For reference, there are cases where there are people who suffered from skin disease (eg. rosacea cheek), and after antibiotic treatment, the skin disease is cured. And then they question if H. pylori is related to skin disease. But the truth is, while antibiotic is killing H. pylori, the treatment also cured other underlying problem.
