Need some comfort

I have really had only one symptom for about six weeks which was heartburn/indigestion and I had never had it before in my life (49 years). i just found out that after the endoscopy results finally came back I was positive for H pylori. My doctor prescribed the triple therapy as your website recommends (HPPack) and I started it 4 days ago. I usually wake up feeling pretty good, and about mid-day the indigestion hits. My body is handling the antibiotics well, with no real adverse effects. Throughout the ordeal I have worked full time and just deal with symptoms, but my real concern is to ask the "experts" here, how long this will really take to feel better? By day 4 or 5 should there be some relief? Will this work and is my story consistent with the infection? i just read that many people that don't seem to feel better after the course of drugs, but your stats show that 14 days of this triple therapy is 90% effective. Is there a typical number of days into the treatment that the symptoms seem to ease? just a little worried, frustrated and just need a little advice? Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply. We had some technical issues with the server.

For most people, they feel better almost immediately after the treatment. However, there are some people who recover slower (ranging from weeks to months or even years for some extreme case).

Nevertheless, it is best not to think about it. Concentrate in working is a good way of distracting yourself from the symptoms. Most importantly, you should get a follow up breath test one month after your treatment to make sure that HP is really eradicated.

Thank you so much for your time! Just to be clear when you say that people feel better "immediately feel better" , is that as soon as the treatment begins, or do you mean after the 14 days of the triple therapy is completed? I am only 5 days into the treatment but only feel slightly better? Thanks again!

I myself was diagnosed with H. pylori infection many years ago after experiencing reflux. Then I started my triple therapy. I felt improvement in my reflux, but I suffered from IBS. I was concentrating on my IBS problem throughout the treatment but the IBS problem subside within 2 days after stopping my antibiotics. Then I was back to normal. It's a pity I never thought of keeping that strain for study. Now I can never know where I catch that HP from.

Helico_expert,

Did you just have 1 symptom (reflux)? That's it?

yup. just reflux. At that time, I was first year in my PhD. Thought I may have caught the bug from laboratory. Without second thought, got a GP to prescribe me antibiotics and get rid of it. A bit of regret that I did not keep that strain. Now I can never tell if I caught it from the laboratory.
