Hi everyone.

I see there are a lot of people with knowlegde and experience here, so maybe you can help.

After almost two years with on/off symptoms, I finally got a gastroscopy. I had HP. 6 weeks ago I tok the triple medicines. About 3 weeks ago I had to take Selexid due to an urinary tract infection. After that my stomach pains got unbearable. Much worse than ever. My doc told me to take Somac three times a day. After several days I felt better but some mild symptoms remain. I'm taking one somac a day now, and have to take it for two months.
He didn't think the symptoms had anything to with the selexid.

Is this normal? Have any of you experienced this? Could it be that the HP wasn't eradicated? How long did you have symptoms for after completing the course?

Thank you for reading.

Have you taken the follow-up breath test after 30 days of the treatment completion to see if the H-Pylori is eradicated? If not, then there is no way to know if you still have it or if it is gone. Go get the breath test. Make sure you are are off the PPIs for atleast 1 week prior to the test.

When you mean "stomach pains", are you referring to stomach area or intestinal area? Are the stomach pains coming and going or always there?
Try to take a note of the pains and the areas to give a better picture for your Doc.

Thank you for your reply.

My doctor is a specialist in gastrology, I'm surprised that he's never mentioned this breat test. I live in norway, maybe this isnt a common practice here? I'll call him tomorrow and find out.

The pains are mostly in the ventricular area, right after any meal.

The follow-up breath test is standard everywhere. Usually 4 weeks to 6 weeks after the treatment completes. Stay of PPIs for atleast a week to 10 days to avoid false negative on the breath test. This is the only simple and easy way you know H-Pylori is eradicated.

Ventricular area? Do you mean close to the heart area? Is it a heart-burn? Get a Ultrasound to rule out gall-bladder issues.

Hello again.

I'm posting this update since you were kind enough to show interest in my case:

I have now called both my gp and the gastroenterologist. They both said that the breath test isn't done in norway. Since the triple therapy is effective more than in 99% of all patients, there's no need to follow up each and everyone.

My gp told me to take somac for 6 more weeks. If the symptoms remain in September, I will have to take a new gastrscopy.

Just request the breath test. It is your health, not theirs. If they don't, just pay for it and get it done.

I must get someone to build in the like button.

I agree. You should get yourself tested. It is better to confirm the eradication rather than mis diagnosed as reinfection down the track.

I called my gp again today (I think he's getting tired of me..) and said that I want the breath test. He said it's not available anywhere in Norway.. So there's nothing more I can do...

not available and no need to do are different story. So your doctor think you dont need because it's not available? doesnt sound right. What about stool test?

My docs will absolutely not do the breath test. Nor is the stool test available in Norway.

Is it possible to order the test from abroad and do it at home? Does anyone have web link?
