Yesterday I spoke to a GI doctor. I completed my h pylori treatment a month ago with metronidazole, clarithromycin and omperazole. The GI doctor said that combination is probably 80% effective. He told me he wants to test to see if I really am allergic to penicillin so that he can give amoxicillin which is more effective. He also commented on the dosage of clarithromycin I was given. I'm not sure if he thought it was too low or too high. I'm still having h pylori symptoms like heartburn and bloating so he thinks there is a chance that treatment failed.

I have an endoscopy on June 16. He's also checking for celiacs disease. He said to go off of PPIs 10 days before and hat I can take graviscon for heartburn during that time.

what your doctor prescribed is accurate. we can discuss further if his treatment failed.

I just started taking 1000mg claritromicin and 2000 mg amoxicillin. I took the first pills at 11AM and started to experience bad taste in the mouth (it's due to claritromicin) an hour afterwards. However, I also started having this mild itching all over my body around 4PM and one small part of my lips is hurting. Do you think this a harmless side effect of the drugs or should I be concerned?

They're the side effects of the antibiotics. Just keep monitoring yourself. Try bare with it unless it's really really untolerable, then speak to your doctor.
