Chronic belching years after H. pylori

I had an H. pylori infection about 6 years ago and my stomach has never been the same since. Before the infection, burping was a very rare occurrence. What prompted me to go to the doctor besides stomach pain was the incredible sessions of belching I would have where I would belch one after another for hours at a time sometimes. I was absolutely miserable from belching. I also had pretty bad nausea. It was confirmed I had H. pylori with a stomach scope and successfully treated. To this day, 6 years later, I still have uncontrollable belching sessions quite often. These are usually accompanied by mild nausea. It is very embarrassing and most of all miserable because I can't stop. I went back to the same gastroenterologist who treated me and he couldn't give me any answers except that I was probably swallowing air and there was nothing he could do for me. I am pretty sure that I am not swallowing air. Any ideas about what this could be or what the next steps for treatment are?

unfortunately there is no straight forward answer for your problem. I know a few people who is helicobacter negative and the burp all the time, especially when they are under a lot of stress or pressure. Nevertheless, do you know if your H. pylori has been completely eradicated? have you done a follow up breath test to confirm that?

Hi there!
I am a Speech-Languge Pathologist, and recently evaluated a man who has chronic belching following years after his H. Pylori treatment. His last re-test in 2005 said that he no longer has H. Pylori. He did state that it decreased significantly since the treatment. He recently read a study that was done stating that the belching could be a learned behavior and an SLP could assist with undoing the learned behvior. He states that it mostly happens when he is sitting and not talking for an extended period of time (i.e. church, presentations) and it becomes embarrassing and disruptive. I have referred him to an ENT to see if anything is structurally different. Any thoughts?
