I was hoping an expert could provide insight into my h- pylori test results. I have suffered from chronic nausea, burning, heartburn, and other GI issues for months. Was tested through Metametrix -through a stool DNA test. This test cane back positive. This stool test was done through a natropath. I went to my gastroenterologist with these results as I wanted to start antibiotics - since he did not run the test he wanted to do his own. My gastroenterologist gave me three blood tests which were all Negative. I requested the three blood tests as I wanted to make sure it was a true read after getting the stool test results. Could it be possible to have a positive stool test and a negative blood test and could I have still have h- pylori? My doctor says that if I had h- pylori it would be in my blood-and since the test was negative I don't have it. Any help would be SO appreciated!!

I believe blood test is more sensitive than stool DNA test. The problem with blood test is that you cannot tell when you are infected. If you are infected with H. pylori, your blood test will always be positive for months or years. Then again, if your doctor is using one of those dip stick test where they prick your finger and test the tiny bit of your blood, then I am not sure how sensitive that is.

Stool DNA test on the other hand, is known to have high false positive rate. If the laboratory that did the test for you is good enough, you can request the DNA to be sequenced and see if it matches to H. pylori. In your case, most likely not.
