How long for gastritis to go...

Hello,

I posted my story a while ago about my h pylori experience and I did triple therapy last September and then received a negative stool test in October. But I was still experiencing symptoms and at the start of this year I went to see a new specialist who ruled out various things and then eventually following an endoscopy has said I definitely don't have h pylori but I do have gastritis and duodenitis. I'm now taking 40mg of omeprazole and 2 antepsin a day. I was wondering if anyone has experience of how long it takes to get better? My consultants thought is that following triple therapy my stomach wasn't given the opportunity to heal properly hence why I'm still having issues.

Sounds like you are having the non-helicobacter pylori gastritis. Unfortunately the reason is unknown. Here I post a summary of the possibility for the cause of this non-helicobacter pylori gastritis. It's taken from the following article.

Reasons for H. pylori-negative gastritis in our study are unknown but may include the following:

1. The use of PPI. Animal studies have suggested that long-term PPI use can lead to gastric inflammation, possibly through microbial overgrowth.

2. Autoimmune gastritis, where your immune system is attacking your own stomach cells.

3. Infection by organisms other than H. pylori (e.g., Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare, Herpes simplex, and Cytomegalovirus are a few examples of organisms that can invade the gastric mucosa and cause inflammation).

4. Chemical or reactive gastritis, often caused by bile reflux or NSAID use.
