Hi all,

Sorry I'm new and not sure where best to post.
My 17 month old has a long gastric history, including severe gord, gastritis, intolerance to ppi's, food refusal he has a gastrostomy tube.
He has just had his 4th endoscopy and the results have come back as bacillius typical of H Pylori.
He has been prescribed Amoxicillin, metronidazole and lansoprozole which is the ppi he has less side effects.
We has been taking the meds since Tuesday and today has been awful, he is vomitting, gagging, has diareah which he always get with antibiotics and ppis he is also really gassy.i have had him on probiotics for months and have continued with them during this treatment, is this recommended?
I also think he has a yeast infection again. Can you take antifungals whilst on treatment for H Pylori? We have successfully treated him for yeast in the past with Diflucan.
Does these side effects sound pretty typical of people that go through treatment? He can't talk yet so can't tell me where's hurting but he seems so stressed and wired.
Sorry for all the questions the drs are closed now til Tuesday because of the bank holiday and I'm really worried about him.

Many thanks
Carrie

Really? I did wonder but can't find anything that says stop them, do you have a link at all? I'm not happy with his gastro guy as he said to carry on with them..

Thank you so much for your reply.

theoretically, all the probiotics should be killed by the antibiotics your child is taking. it will be scary to know if the probiotic is resistant to the strong antibiotics as they can then pass the resistant gene to other organism or help other organism to survive.

anyway.. we dont normally treat children with H. pylori infection unless they are really really really affected by the infection. I think in most cases, the side effects of the drugs cause more harm than good.

it is common for people to catch H. pylori at young age. for most people, they dont even realise they are infected and carry this organism for life.

nevertheless, since you already started the treatment, you should complete it to prevent resistance. perhaps everyone in the household (or babysitter) should have h. pylori check and treatment too to prevent reinfection of your child.

Thanks for your reply, so much conflicting advise.

He has always had major gasto problem, he currently has cronic gastritis and H Pylori which they wanted to treat incase it is causing the problems.
Can you use antifungals when on treatment for H Pylori? He definitely is suffering from yeast as well since treatment started.
He have been told there is no reason for household members to be tested as it is not caught in that way!! Think I need to speak to the gastro guy again.

perhaps you should speak to pediatrician and hear their opinion on the antibiotics and anti-fungal.

It's his paediatrician that's been giving the conflicting and worrying advise.

Which is why I wanted some advise from the experts, thanks anyway.
