Prilosec vs Pepcid

Doc wants me to stay on Prilosec for two months to heal gut lining (still having symptoms). I wonder, however, if Pepcid would be just as effective? I know that they work differently, but the goal is the same: reduced acid.

I don't like the side effects of Prilosec nor the horrible rebound effect it produces once you stop.

Would like to hear discussion on this topic. Thanks.

Pepcid gives you fast relieve, but short period of time. Prilosec is the opposite. If you are proven to have ulcer (from endoscopy), then i would recommend prilosec which gives you longer period of acid free environment, so your ulcer get a chance to heal. you can slowly reduce the dosage to reduce the "rebound" effect.
