I though I had a general bug as was being sick, couldn't eat as no appetite at all and bad indigestion and tummy cramps. It's like somethin swimming round inside of me hitting and scraping the lining if my stomach. Went doctors and just found out got h pylori and ulcers. Going back to drs for treatment tomorrow. Will it work? How long will it take? She's given me tablets to stop me feelin sick but still got no appetite. I'm waking in the night with cramps and feeling sick. It's horrible. Please help me as I'm scared and worried.

dont have to worry too much. Your doctor would have given you a Proton pump inhibitor (Nexium, omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole, etc). That is to reduce your stomach acid and so you wont feel the pain. It'll take 24-48 hrs for the PPI to gradually reduce your stomach acid. according to the guideline, you'll need to keep taking PPI for at least a month or until the ulcer is healed. the only way to tell if the ulcer is healed is by endoscopy.

about the bacteria, H. pylori, the two antibiotics you are given (any two combination of the three: amoxicillin or clarithromycin or metronidazole), has a cure rate of 70-80%. just make sure you take them on time and finish the course. if the bacteria is not eradicated, there is a high chance of your ulcer coming back. after your PPI treatment, do a follow up breath test to check if your H. pylori has been killed.

side effects:
these antibiotics are pretty safe. however, some people does feel some metalic taste in the mouth. many experienced some bowel problem. some experienced headache and nausea.

Just seen my doctor and she's said I have a high temperature so thinks I have something else as well as h pylori. There are points in m stomach which kills when she pressed on them, my upper abdomen is swollen and very sore to touch. I have been to the toilet and it wasnt formed properly but only been once. Any ideas anyone? I'm in agony but she said dont take the anti biotics till poo formed as wont work. Please help, what is it?

you probably have some kind of infection. Hard to tell without proper test. then again, diarrhea or loose stools cause by bacteria or virus is usually self limiting. wait a few days and see if it gets better. drink lots of water.
