I was recently diagnosed with H Pylori infection under a stool test (Metametrix). I have had 2 other stool tests (standard antigen) at the same time for H pylori which came out negative. I also had equivocal results for H pylori antigen (igg) on a blood test. I was started on the Prevpac with Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin and a PPI but by the 2nd dosage I was really sick (nauseous, dizzy, disoriented and having shaking and tremors). I was asked to discontinue the treatment. I have now been asked to take Alinia (nitazoxanide) to treat H pylori. I will be starting it in a month.

My symptoms are:

1. eye pain
2. occasional heartburn
3. hard stools
4. recently developed eye floaters, eyes are always strained with blood vessels visible (all comprehensive eye tests done by ophthalmologist were normal)
5. recently developed tinnitus in left ear (all ear tests normal, ENT says maybe a viral infection which will resolve on its own in 2-months)
6. aches in the middle of shoulder blades
7. chronic fatigue

Could the above symptoms be related to H pylori infection? Why did it appear negative in 2 out of 3 stool tests done at the same time (same week)?

it sounded like you are allergic to one of the antibiotic. do you know if you are allergic to penicillin (same as amoxicillin)? if you are, you will need to use other triple therapy that doesnt contain penicillin. perhaps you should ask for penicillin allergy test from your blood before trying other triple therapies. exposing too much antibiotics to H. pylori will only make them stronger.

stool test is sensitive up to 95%. why 2 out of 3 gives you negatives...? not sure. perhaps you were taking some acid reducing drugs before the test? when your acid level is low, the bacteria load decrease and may leads to false negative.

Thanks for the reply. I have taken Amoxcillin before several times. I have not had any issues with that. Do you have any information on the use of anti protozoa drugs like Alinia as being a treatment for h pylori? My doctor seems to believe it should handle the bacteria as it is the same class of drugs as flagyl. He has recommended using Ainia without another antibiotic or PPI.

I am sorry, I am not familiar with Ainia. If your GP suggested, he must have some success cases. We'll have to see how it turns out.

are your symptoms from the h pylori or did they come up after you started taking antibiotics. the reason i ask is my symptoms are the same as yours but not sode affects from antibiotics

l also had all those symptoms as SKM. l have tested positive again just recently. This is my 3rd time positive, Last treatment was 2010. Will l ever beat this thing l wonder. Will see how this treatment goes & l am also allergic to penicillin. Just finished 7 day treatment & now have oral thrush.

would have to look up what l took the 1st couple of times but this time my normal GP prescribed me

Clarithrmycin 250mg 1 tablet twice a day
Doxycycline Hydrochloride 100 mg 1 tablet daily
Omerprazole 20 mg 1 tablet daily

my doctor has also had HP but l'm surprised what he has given me to treat it this time, but his intention is to hit me with 2nd dose of meds in another week.
l have thrush from the last dose l finished yesterday morning.

When l was treated back in 2010 (the 2nd treatment) l was given a lot more medication than that & l know one medication was called Bismuth.
l kept the tags off the package so l would remember. l will get them out later.
1st time l was ever treated it was Nexium 7 in a purple & white box. The chemist took out the penicillin & replaced it with another to suit me.
1st treatment failed but the 2nd worked & l was ok up until about 16 months ago l had my thoughts it was back but 2 doctors did not listen & said its viral & out the door with nothing. was only when my blood preasure went crazy that my wife insisted l be checked via colonoscopy & gast biopsy. will ask doc in about 30 mins if the breath test detected it. My wife had one & was negative. She was positive my 1st time & 1 dose of meds fixed her. seems l'm unlucky.


Just like to add l had 2 stool tests & they never detected it.

H. pylori will never get resistance to amoxycillin and bismuth. so you can keep repeating this two antibiotics and add another one to boost the treatment IF your current treatment failed.

now you should wait a month without taking any PPI, and check your H. pylori status by breath test.

Well the bad news is l tested positive again See the specialist on Thursday. Hope he has some good treatment.
l walked out on my GP last week who has no idea about HP & l will get a new GP who listens to their patients l'm so over doctors who refuse to listen to the symptoms of this disease. l reckon l have been carrying HP for many years before it was detected. This is my 4th positive over near 4 years.
will let you know the outcome. that's if l survive the anxiety & stress l have built up from it.
