Newly Diagnosed

The various unpleasant manifestations of Helicobacter can be described here. Remember however that the great majority of persons with Hp have no symptoms that they are aware of and consider themselves normal.

Newly Diagnosed

Post by CCK »

Hi, I am newly diagnosed with active h pylori (both blood and stool test). I need some advice please. I will be traveling to Asia in a week for 3 weeks. I'm hesitant to start on my triple therapy (amoxicillin, clarithromycin and lansoprazoles) due to the possible side effects. Is it ok to wait until I come back to get treated? Will my symptoms get worse? I am afraid to travel with a weak stomach caused by the antibiotics. Any advise appreciated.

Hi, no worries, you can wait until you come back to get treated. All our patients are on a long waiting list to get treated and most of them have had H.pylori since their childhood. Also it is not easy to take a treatment while you are on holidays as you might forget a pills. So have a good trip, don't worry about your treatment, you'll take it seriously once you're back.

Hi,
I have decided to take the triple therapy before my trip. I am on the third day of the medicines and have been experiencing rapid heart rate. It would go up to 100 beats per minutes at times. I also have hard time sleeping, probably due to the fast heart beat. Is this dangerous? Has anyone experience this side effect? Should I continue with the triple therapy. Thanks!

in some rare cases, both clarithromycin and metronidazole causes rapid heart rate. ask your GP to switch antibiotic if you cant stand the fast heart beat. you're half way through the therapy. Hopefully you can complete the course.

Hi, if this treatment doesn't work for you it means that the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics you were given. Your doctor should give you different set of antibiotics. There is no point in taking the same treatment again and again.
