I have been fighting Gerd for years with no relief. My GI finally suggested surgery to correct the problem. During the work up it was found I had a low platelet count. The hematologist said that I needed to be tested for H pylori. Has anyone else had a low platelet count? I go for my blood test this week just curious if the doctors are barking up the wrong tree. I have not been able to find any information on this.

I think you should leave surgery as your last solution. Go do a quick breath test and see if you are H. pylori infected. Maybe the simple antibiotic treatment will solve your problem.

Thanks. My surgery wouldn't be until January so I am exploring all possibilities. At this point I just want to feel good. I tired of being sick and tired. They are starting with a blood test. I will ask my GP about the breath test. If this'd would help with the pain, weight gain and general hurting in my stomach I am game for anything. My reflux is so bad I now have Barrett's. Since cancer runs in our family anything I can do to help keep myself from getting it is welcomed.

you probably have to stop PPI for at least 2 weeks before the breath test.
