Hi, was diagnosed with h pylori in july, had one week treatment which seemed to improve my symptoms. I returned to my gp because i still had gas, bloating neausia, she would not re test me, but gave me many different tablets. I was eventually tested and was still positive for h pylori, that was about two weeks ago, my gp said she is not fully convinced my symptoms are from h pylori, because I would have indegestion. I am now taking some different tablets off her for 3 weeks, she has then agreed to give me quadrupple treatment for two weeks if no better, im allergic to penicillan, I was also told off another gp, that just because my result was positive, it does not mean the h pylori is alive, im very confused and would like some opinions on this, thankyou

Indeed, this is confusing. Tell us more about the test you did. If you did serology then yes, it does not mean that your Hp is still there, it just means that you had at one point in your life. If you did a Urea Breath test and it was positive, then yes you still have Helicobacter and you need a treatment. The symptoms are different for everyone and they don't all have indigestion. So the right test for the right answer...

hi,
since you are taking the quadruple therapy now, I think we should wait till you complete the course and then wait for 2 weeks for a follow up test. Stool test is sensitive enough. Very rarely it'll give false positive. Your doctor probably refer to blood test.
Can you list down what you have had before? and what quadruple therapy you are having now? That will give us some understanding on what treatment you are undergoing and perhaps can tell you if you are having the right combination.

Hi, I had tripple therapy in july, for one week, then omoprzole on and off, and a tablet called antepsin and a tablet called ranatadine, stopped all this medication for three weeks to get re tested, doctor now asked me to carry on with omeprozole and ranatadine for three weeks, to see if things settle down, if im still the same after this time my doctor is going to give me quadrupple therapy. I am allegic to penicillian, do you think its still alive? still have gas and bloating. thankyou for your reply, im so fed up

Why not get a breath/stool test before the quadruple treatment? I think we shouldnt treat this blindly. I think eating antibiotic blindly is just abusing antibiotics and might introduce resistance to other guts bacteria.

I was tested two weeks ago, stool sample, came back positive h pylori, gp not convinced it is alive! If I still have symptoms in a week or so, she is giving me quadrupple therapy. do you think it is alive?

if your stool test is positive, it will be "alive". Stool test is very sensitive and false positive rate is very low.
a quadruple therapy is possible. Can you list down what you had and what will you be having?

Im sorry I cant remember what i had, I think one was metrozide(think I spelt this wrong) and another two medications, I dont seem to be as bad as I was, but still have symptoms. my doctor said she had researched and found quadruple therapy (not sure where). another doctor said I had allready had the only medication I could have as I am allergic to penicillian, think this is why my doctor has dome some research.
