Can it return?

Hi All,

In April this year, I started vomiting blood and got admitted to hospital. After a series of tests, the doctors started me on some pain killers and monitoring me. After 7 weeks of constant stomach pains and vomiting, they finally discovered I had HP. I started the course of triple antibiotics and after a while I manage to eat again.

Recently I've had the same symptoms and am due to go back into hospital. I've been reading up on HP and a lot of sites seem to say that you are unlikely to contract HP twice.

Has anyone else had it numerous times? Im starting to think that my antibiotics never really got rid of it, just left it dormant.

Any advice/sharing of past experiences would be great.

Thanks in advance!!

it's not easy to catch it again, however, it is more likely that you fail the first treatment and the survival from the last treatment populated your stomach again.

I think you should go back to your GP and get a breath test done. that will tell if you still have the bug in your stomach.

did you do an endoscopy?

I had 1106 on my Urease breath test back in Late March and did my triple therapy.

I'm still not quite right, even though the follow up breath test 4 weeks after therapy I got a result of 6.

I might get another breath test done. I suggest you do the same! H pylori is the worst, and if your symptoms are similar then definitely take it again.

Chances of reoccurring of H pylori is 2.5% or 5% per year, I forget.

I think the UBT result of 6 is pretty good. I think you have it eradicated. Just eat and drink healthy. Dont over eat vege or whatever you think it's good. Balance diet is important. Give yourself a few more weeks, I believe you will recover.

congratulation on the treatment by the way.
