Hi, I was diagnosed and treated with antibiotics for helicobactor over two weeks ago, my stomach still felt a bit bloated and unsettled so i re-visited my doctor, she refused to re test me and told me to continue with omeprozole, i bought some mastic gum and manuka honey and started them 3 days ago. I now have terrible neausia and just wandered if this was normal, thanks for any replies :(

Hi

I have just been diagnosed & am 3 days into treatment for Helicobacter. I was told that you need to wait 4 weeks before you can be re tested. Also that I could have symptoms for 3/4 months before I feel well again. I also have terrible nausea, burning & feeling v full & bloated after eating. Generally run down & exhausted. I thought the exhaustion was from being a mother of two small ones, but as Hbactor messes with your digestion I was not getting the nutrients I need from my food hence the complete exhaustion, a little depressed , overwhelmed with a little anxiety. A swollen stomach and IBS symptoms. So glad to have an answer, but recovery isn't instant after treatment. So I think from what I've read that the nausea is normal but hopefully won't last too long. It's a horrible bug and I can't wait to feel normal again.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

Lallm

agree. You'll need some time to recover from the damage done by H. pylori. also, you need at least 3 - 4 weeks without acid reducing agent (eg. PPI or any remedy) before UBT or stool test. You cannot use blood test to confirm the eradication because if you were infected by H. pylori before, you'll always be positive (at least for a year or two).

After your antibiotic treatment, your normal flora is usually wiped out. So I would recommend some good bacteria, (eg. probiotic) to replenish your guts. Or at least prevent the bad bacteria to dominate your guts before the good ones.

all the best!
:)

Hi Caziann.

I suggest you look at some of the first few threads I've made on this forum, it explains (in rather large amounts of detail) the pain and suffering one can expect after eradicating H. Pylori.

I've been about 5.5 months after my treatment and I can't eat more than a fistful of food at a time, I have to eat very small meals and frequently.
I can barely drink normal water and I have constant nausea if I eat more than 2 mouthfuls of food.

My endoscopy said "Mild inflammation in the duodenum" But it's causing me grief like you wouldn't believe.

I've tried everything to fix it, mastic gum, manuka honey, mint, licorice, cabbage, L-Glutamine etc. Nothing works, only thing that will heal you is time.

Be prepared to wait. My dad took 2 years to recover, my gf's uncle took 2.5 years to recover, my mate from work took 3 weeks... so... It can honestly vary.

Best of luck with your H Pylori erradication! Hope it goes well for you. I'm still struggling. (23kgs later..)

Thankyou, I was just worried that I still had helico, my doctor said she would not test me again for at least six months, I cant get used to feeling full at the top of my stomach, its like food irritates my stomach now or the food is just sitting there, (not sure which)feel like a have a roll of fat under my bust, I can eat more food now, but feel that now ive been treated, i now have different symptoms, hope this makes sense

six months is a bit too long for the confirmation. I think 4-6 weeks waiting period should be enough for the UBT.

about recovery, please be patience. it does take a while for some people to recover. if H. pylori is truly eradicated, then at least you have one factor less to worry about.

I agree. 5 weeks go back to do a breath test to see if it is gone.

You MUST not take antibiotics or any acid reducing medication (PPI, H2 blocker etc) during this 5 weeks or will affect the test.

6 Months is silly. The Urease Breath Test is the most common way of checking. I think your doctor is thinking of the blood test which CAN show up the antigens in your blood which exist when H pylori is present, these antigens can last for years after erradication of H. Pylori.

And yes Caziann. Eating is a SERIOUS issue for me, I ate half a banana and 1 cup of water today. I'm having a bad day with food today -.-
