H.PYLORI Treatment done, but still in pain

I was diagnosed with H.Pylori back in November 2011.
I HAVE DONE THE TREATMENT, BUT HAVE NOT HAD A FOLLOW UP TO TEST IF IT IS STILL THERE...
MEDICATIONS I TAKE ARE: NEXIUM before it was LOSEC, BENEFIBRE, ACIDOPHILUS ULTRA (with other probiotics) I think this is giving me gas, I tried Oil of Oregano but had an allergic reaction to it (hives) , Eat MANUKA HONEY once in awhile
I have had a blood serum test and it showed positive. So my doctor prescribed the HPAC with: amoxicillin (Amoxil) and clarithromycin (Biaxin) with the Lansoprazole. Took it all and continued taking Prilosec. Well I was watching my diet, but sometimes I was eating whatever I wanted. I didn't drink ALCOHOL at all, but had a few bites of spicy food, greasy food and a little acidic fruits. I finished taking the HPAC around 1st week of January. I was feeling a bit better, continuing to take 40 MG of Losec everyday... I then stopped to take 20 MG of Losec in a month and that was a bad idea, because my heartburn acid reflux symptoms came back. 2 months ago I had a stomach attack in the middle of the night from gnawing pain and gas for 2 hours, it went away and I took Peptol Bismal. It just gets worse, in the last month I have had severe pain while I was travelling in Asia for 3 weeks, just the same esophagus chest pain and stomach felt like it was turning upside down.
I live in Canada, and and the doctors don't do nothing for you. I was in emergency at 2 hospitals and they say I need to wait for a endoscopy and deal with the pain and cannot do anything for me.
So last week I was in more pain .. with acid reflux. My whole chest has this pain and throbbing feeling. When I eat it hurts and burns a bit on the way down and mostly at the top of my stomach. I have gas and bloatedness after I eat , with a lot of belching. This is all making me miserable and depressed. THIS PAIN IS RUINING MY LIFE, MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. Please answer my questions below if you do have any. THANK YOU!
1. Did you take the HPAC and did it eradicate H.Pylori for you??
2. Did anyone else take another type of antibiotics to eradicate it??
3. I can't afford to not take a PPI to do the UREA BREATH TEST,is there anything I can take for my acid reflux during the one week??
4. Did anyone try NEXIUM does it work for you? I have changed to this drug as I didn't think Losec was working
5. It's been 5-6 months after treatment and my symptoms appear to be the same but even worse.. could it be just ULCERS?
6. Does a scope show if there's H.Pylori ??
7. Should the HPAC have eradicated all H.Pylori and if taking the medication probably.. should I not have any worse symptoms anymore??
8. Is it possible the H.Pylori is still in my body and stomach?
9. Does the H.Pylori causes Ulcer in the Duodenum, Lower Esophagus, and Stomach?

1. Did you take the HPAC and did it eradicate H.Pylori for you??
ANS: HPAC should work for most of the general public.
2. Did anyone else take another type of antibiotics to eradicate it??
ANS: Yes, there are many more other therapy. Talk to your doctor for 2nd line therapy. or 3rd line.
3. I can't afford to not take a PPI to do the UREA BREATH TEST,is there anything I can take for my acid reflux during the one week??
ANS: You can ask for the 2nd or 3rd line therapy straight away assuming that your first treatment failed. Or, you can ask for an endoscopy and bacteria culture. During the culture, ask for antibiotic sensitivity test. That will tell the doctor exactly what antibiotics to use. That will be more time consuming, but most effective method.
4. Did anyone try NEXIUM does it work for you? I have changed to this drug as I didn't think Losec was working
ANS: Nexium should work like any other PPI.
5. It's been 5-6 months after treatment and my symptoms appear to be the same but even worse.. could it be just ULCERS?
ANS: The only way to detect the ulcer is by endoscopy. Perhaps you should do what I suggested in Q3.
6. Does a scope show if there's H.Pylori ??
ANS: Yes. The CLOtest will tell you if you are infected. However, if you are on PPI, the result may be affected. Nevertheless, histology of your biopsy will be able to tell if you are infected. But that depends on the bacteria load and the pathologist skill. You can ask for bacteria culture too. Again, it depends on the laboratory technician's skill.
7. Should the HPAC have eradicated all H.Pylori and if taking the medication probably.. should I not have any worse symptoms anymore??
ANS: Amox + Clari + PPI works for 70-80% of the patients. There is a chance that the H pylori is resistant the treatment and so a different combination of antibiotics have to be used. Then again, we are assuming H. pylori is the cause of your problems. We could be wrong from the very beginning. So we should quickly get a confirmation of your H pylori eradication status (that will be a few months time), then we can rule that factor out and start search for other reason.
8. Is it possible the H.Pylori is still in my body and stomach?
ANS: Yes. Resistance is very common and is getting more and more common as we have been exposed to more and more antibiotics.
9. Does the H.Pylori causes Ulcer in the Duodenum, Lower Esophagus, and Stomach?
ANS: Yes (most of the time), Yes (rare) and Yes (half of the time).
PS: H. pylori only contribute to 50% of the stomach ulcer. Another 50% is caused by NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents): eg. aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.

Hi HPylori Expert.
Thank you so much for your information. I don't know if you are a MD or just a researcher, whoever you are I am grateful for your help and answers.
I have talked to two GPs today and this is what they say:
DOCTOR A: Take the second line treatment, amoxicillin, metronidazole, and NEXIUM for 10 days. Continue with the endoscopy and you may have a hiatal hernia.
DOCTOR B: Don't do the breath test, do the endoscopy. I can't give you medication before you are diagnosed with H.Pylori still. Take the Nexium double amount.
I have decided to take the second line treatment and see how it goes.. what are my next steps?
1. Is this correct: ANTIBIOTICS & PPI -> Endoscopy -> Breath Test (I don't know when in between I have to stop taking PPI's)
2. They suggested to me to do the scope over the breath test. Should I do the breath test after the endoscopy still , if so when?

Hi everyone..
I have good news but some bad news.
Good news is the UREA BREATH TEST shows negative and there is no live h.pylori in me from what it shows. For some reason in Canada they do not do a scope and get the culture and believe that the stool antigen test is most accurate. I will take this as a relief and move on with my life.
Currently I am still having chest pains (stress possibly), indigestion, gas, bloatedness, stool is not good, sometimes constipated sometimes loose.
I believe the drugs NEXIUM and LOSEC I was taking had been really bad on my liver, pancreas and stomach..
I tried the elimination food diet and found no relief. I hope my digestive system will be back to normal.
Currently saw a Naturopath and taking DGL Licorice root, multi probiotics and b vitamins , getting a test done for BARIUM MEAL STOMACH EMPTYING and ESOPHAGUS PH LEVELS 24 hour test. Then I am doing more stool examinations for parasites ..
Good luck everyone and I hope you will all eventually get cured.!! Thank you for all your help H.Pylori_expert
Please take a look at the website from David Hompes its pretty amazing and I've seen some pretty good natural ways of killing h.pylori. PLEASE look into it and try it first before the antibiotics and PPI's because all the antibiotics and PPI's do is make the bug stronger and PPI can be damaging to your body in different ways. See a gastroenterologist, and a good naturopath..

Please let us know how the naturopath goes. I am very much like you, still suffering after 6 months. In fact I feel worse now than I did 3 months ago, I am not healing..
I have weaned off nexium, from 40mg a day to 20mg, to 20mg every 2 days and now every 3-4 days to minimize the impact of stopping PPIs.
Today has been my worst day ever in the 6 months. Feels like I got H pylori again but can't do a test for 1 more month because I took a PPI recently -.-''
Im taking probiotics and a vitamin B tablet that disolves 1mg under your tongue which is great, because if you're taking PPI your absorbtion of B12 is reduced drastically!
And don't trust david hompes... His website is OBVIOUSLY designed to make money out of people who are sick..

Hi xceL,
There are many reasons why possibly you are in pain:
- Nexium is too strong for you and you need another PPI
I've done some of these tests and still doing these tests... maybe look into it for yourself?
1. Food allergy elimination test, gluten/dairy
2. Barium Xray to look at if you have hiatal hernia and acid reflux
3. Do a blood test to see your vitamin B Vitamin D, calcium levels
4. Stop the PPI and do the UREA BREATH TEST.
5. Do exercise a bit if you can and don't be stressed out.
6. Stomach Emptying test for how long food takes to digest in my stomach
7. Stool Antigen test for Parasites
8. Stool test for good bacterial flora
I don't think that david homes isn't a scam, from what I've seen he just wants to help people get better, but yes you don't need him to get better. Just see a naturopath or do some research on some of the articles on this site. If you took antibiotics double therapy you probably have killed the bug. My naturopath is going to help me take either acid producing pill HCL Betaine or Digestive Bitters. Take the multi probiotics always, because they kill the h.pylori a certain strand of probiotics I forgot which one.
Hope you feel better soon.. what are your symptoms?

I'm left with early satiety. So I get full after about 5-6 mouthfuls of anything.
People always tell me "just eat small portions frequently throughout the day" - But it doesn't work.. Because I have to wait 3.5 hours or so before I can even eat any more.
You know that feeling when you eat so much, to the point where having even a small bit of food in your mouth makes you feel nauseated and sick? That's what I get after eating a little bit of food.
It's almost as if my stomach won't expand, since it is roughly the size of a fist when it is empty. Which is approximately how much food I can handle.
Also, when I belch/burp, it feels like my oesophagus and throat is just stretched open and that if I'm not up right, the contents of my stomach will come up. It's a very bizarre feeling.
I am about 6 months past my erradication therapy, and every couple of weeks I would have different symptoms, all very different. However this feeling of early satiety has been common throughout and currently it's the only real symptom I'm getting for the past few weeks.
Don't know what to do. I only have "mild inflammation" apparently. To be specific, a patch of inflammation in the duodenum. So I don't know why it hasn't healed already.
I've tried everything. Pariet and Nexium, different probiotics, pure Alo Vera, Mastic Gum, Manuka Honey, digestive enzymes, beetroot (and all those other veggies that are good for stomach)... BRAT diet (Breat,Rice,Apples,Toat), Gluten free, Lactose free..
At this rate, due to lack of food consumption I'll probably be dead by middle of next year.
