My doctor wants me to stay on PPI's twice a day for three months then once a day for three months after that. I think that's a bit extensive, but I don't understand why he doesn't want me to test to confirm HP is gone. I had some inflammation gastritis and redness in areas. I know you have to be off PPI's for two weeks before the breath test to avoid a false negative. Is there any way to test while on PPI's? I completed antibiotics about two weeks ago.

i think the best way is to stop your PPI before any test to avoid false negative. Your doctor is worried that you may be having ulcer. that's why you are given so much PPI for so long term.

Also, I think It's better to wait at least 3 or 4 weeks after the end of the antibiotics to do a new breath test.

It's been almost a month since treatment. I think staying on PPI's for six months is crazy though

so how are you feeling now? if you are feeling ok, you can try stopping your PPI for 2 weeks and go for a follow up breath test. The 6 month PPI is probably to give time your ulcer healing.. assuming you have ulcer.

I'm feeling horrible on these PPI's, but a lot better besides that just a little belly grumbling. I have no pain and never really had any. Not able to eat anything that's bad for me, but I could live with that.
