Hi Helico expert,
It's been 7 days of taking the PPIs (20mg twice a day) and for some reason I found my upper stomach pain getting worse in the past 2 days. It's lasting longer and doesn't get better with eating or not eating. I get waves of dull, cramping pain. Drinking antacids also doesn't stop the pain. I'm wondering if I''m experiencing side effects of the PPI. If this is the case, can I stop the PPI completely and switch back to the famotidine since it's only been 7 days of taking it? Or should I take a week to gradually taper it off while also starting famotidine?

I assume that you are indeed free of H. pylori. The symptoms that you are experiencing, is it worse than before? If it is, then you'll need to speak to your doctor about it. If it's not as worse as before, then it's just one of those episodes. It will subside after a few days. are you still on omeprazole, 20mg twice a day?

That day my entire belly was having intense pain for several hours, and the next day, I stopped omeprazole, and the pain subsides.
Now I'm back to famotidine. But the problem is, I'm having pain in more areas of the belly in addition to the upper abdominal. It gets really bad after I eat. I can feel my bowel muscles twitching constantly. I feel very bloated and passes lots of gas and burp. Every morning I get up and have to run to the bathroom for diarrhea.

Am I having IBS? I'm just confused why the pain is the most consistent in the upper abdomen where the stomach and pancreas are supposed to be, but clearly something seems wrong with my bowel. Should I ask for breath, blood, stool and colonoscopy tests to check if there's any bacterial infection/inflammation? Should I ask for antispasmotics for the pain?

if it is an incidental experience, then it's probably nothing serious.

if it happens frequently, 2-3 times every week, then I think you need to see a doctor, perhaps get an ultrasound or colonoscopy.
