After completing the course I was on omeprazole 20mg for 2 weeks then left ok so went to 10mg for the next 4 weeks with the aim to stop completely for 2 weeks and then retest. But the symptoms described above have been intense so I am unable to stop completely. In fact I am thinking of going back to 20mg for a few days.

Getting off PPI is a real challenge and I would appreciate if you can share any strategy to come off them without too much pain.

I understand why we need to be off PPI for 14 days before the test but what I dont understand is why the very high dose of PPI in the eradication of the same bacteria. Doesn't both contradict each other?

1. antibiotics dont work very well in acidic condition.
2. when it is not acidic, other bacteria start growing, and that introduce competition which H. pylori cant win.

in our observation, the better the acid suppression, the better the cure rate.

Does the 7 day triple therapy have a good success rate? It appears from this forum that most people still have symptoms after this treatment which could suggest it was not successful.

The NHS guideline in the UK is to stop even H2 blockers for 2 weeks before testing and we cannot get any H2 blockers officially here anyways. Only antacids and PPIs

If you get off H2 blockers 24 hours prior to the UBT and stool test, I'm pretty sure that test results are going to be reliable, because H2 blockers don't stay for a long time inside body unlike PPI's.

I've failed first treatment, and actually felt better after therapy, but stool test showed positive result. So, if your symptoms persists after treatment, that doesn't mean treatment have failed, because your symtomps are due to the stomach inflammation, not h.pylori itself.

Thanks. Like I said that the endoscopy report did not mention any thing about inflammation or ulcer. Not sure if they would have picked this up at the time.

My symptom are all very ulcer like - dull or sharp pain in your upper belly which comes and go, but felt most when your stomach is empty, such as between meals or in the morning. I feel better after eating or drinking milk, or taking an antacid.

Yes, but I've decided to try with natural remedies. I will be doing two stool tests, tomorrow and next week, so we'll see...

Could I ask what are these natural remedies?

But I've been on modified treatment : 80 mg daily of pantoprazole for first 15 days, and then 40 mg daily.
