My Wife is a RN and she talked to a GI specialist from Alabama and she said that a lot of people who have been dealing with Hpylori have been diagnosed with IBS either from the damage of Hpylori or the Meds. She said some people get hp and take the meds and breeze right thru it and some are afflicted with problems post treatment from Meds. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones. I just Pray and hope that one day I can get back to my former self without all these meds Post Treatment. It's hard to live like this but I will stay Positive. God Bless All.

I hate to say, but depression does play a small role in contributing to IBS. In one of our human clinical trial, one group of volunteers were given placebo and another group was challenged with a live H. pylori. I wont go into detail of the project, but in less than one month, one volunteer was sent into emergency with severe gastric problems. Because it was a double blind research, we gave all the antibiotics we have to calm his symptoms. At the end of the research, when we reveal which group this patient belongs to, to everyone's surprise, he was from the placebo group.
So in conclusion, it was all in his mind. He was so stressed up with the trial and he developed all these symptoms. Just like when we are nervous, sometimes we need to go to the bathroom.

I understand what your saying but what is the longest period of time have you seen for a person to recover from HP and Post Treatment?

That's a very subjective question. among the general group, it will be within a few weeks. but for some rare cases, we have seen months. and in this forum, we have heard years.

I have also had these similar issues since my h pylori treatment.
Since my own treatment I have had horrible ibs pain at times along with rectal itching and some small blood on toilet paper (could be from wiping too hard I presume).
I also have horrible gas ever since my treatment. It can be bad at night. I have the slightest sensitivities to certain foods also: milk, sweets, red meat, spicy.
My brother is a nurse and he claims that the intestinal tract is like a sticky wall that anything going through can latch on. Essentially, after eradicating--nuking is how he put it--the h pylori, these bad bacteria can flourish as the competition for area is now open game in the intestines.
The fact is that our doctors weren't forefront in telling us how to cope with the aftermath of such destruction of the gut.

I am sorry to hear what happened to you. IBS seems like a very common problem, among the developing countries. You'll hear people talking about microbiota not balance or allergy to certain food such as gluten. The truth is, the reason for IBS is very complex and nobody actually know what was the reason. It could be anything from diet to your everyday habit. Some people tried changing their diet and improved their IBS problem and some went for the extreme for fecal transplant.
This is a great topic, I hope there will be more IBS discussion here. Especially stories from people with positive experience from whatever treatment they had.

I am one of these cases. Its been about 2 months since my h.pylori treatment has stopped, i have since had two stool tests to confirm eradication, but still am troubled with MANY problems. Which is strange because before this bug, i didnt have one of these issues.
- Stool not normal consistancy or color.
- Burning in the stomach
- Early satiety
- some slow weight loss
- fatigue
- list goes on really, but its quite depressing really.
Part of this could be stress, becuase i have never been so stressed before this hpylori bug..it just causes a whole lot of unknown issues and worry. i hate it.

First, we dont know when you were infected with H. pylori. In general, we scientist believe that most of us caught the bug during our childhood time where we basically stuck everything in our mouth. So, your symptoms may not 100% come from H. pylori. Then again, H. pylori may be the trigger that accelerate or amplify your stomach problems.
Anyway, I think it's a great news to know your H. pylori has been eradicated. Many people have lots of problem eradicating it. So, you are already succeeded 50%.
If you had already done all the test required, eg. endoscopy and colonoscopy, and showed that everything is clean and healthy, then all you are left to do is rest, gather positive thoughts and wait for it to recover.
I would like to share you a story that webtoy100 posted
